So you have never actgually read Meier's work, but you are justgoing to write him off as a "tradition apologist" because of your preconceived notions?

We have a Jesus Seminar where mortals sit at a table and vote with black or white marbles as to whether a passage of Scripture actually happened or not. We have bishops who have written that Jesus was the result of a premarital affair between Joseph and Mary. We have scholars teaching that Joseph never existed, and instead Mary became pregnant through casual sex, then concocted the entire story. We even have scholars teaching that Jesus was actually born decades earlier than we accept, and was the illegitimate son of none other than Cleopatra. Need I go on?

It is my sincere belief that we should make so-called scholars answerable to the Scripture they would attempt to dissect, rather than permitting them to make Scripture answerable to their own beliefs and agendas.

Where in Scripture does it state that Jesus never married? It doesn't. That is the outgrowth of tradtion and bias, not Scripture.
Where in Scripture does it state that Jesus was married to an individual woman? The only reference to Jesus being a bridegroom is with the church being the bride. What you are trying to claim cannot be supported by Scripture nor can it be supported by history either.

Ask yourself this question. What would be the reason for hiding this if it was true from the rest of the world? What advantage would it bring? Judaism is a religion that praised marriage so tell me why it would be so necessary to hide it? Well I tell you there was not reason at all. No reason. Mary Mag is a great saint there is no doubt but no where in all of Scripture or history or tradition does it claim that she was married to Jesus. To think that this is the case requires going way out on speculation and leaving all the facts behind.

I know Devanci Code is suppose to be a great book, but it is only fiction so get over it.

You nor anyone else can prove sufficiently to convence a rational human being that Jesus Christ was married to one woman. All the proof is stacked against you so for the sake of your soul meditate on something more othodox and get out of the heretical gutters.

I want to thank all who responded to my OP, both pro and con. You've shown by the seriousness of your replies that you are truly serious concerning Jesus Christ. I first had this thread about two years ago as a result of an invitation to 'throw the question out there' and see what response I received. They too were serious and thoughtful in their replies.

Some may be wondering what's going on with the topic on this thread, as well as the topic of another thread on this board that was closed. Let me give you some information concerning this.

About one year ago HLN News reported that Elton John, who is a singer, but more importantly for our situation here, a fierce fighter for gay rights, stated categorically that Jesus Christ was gay. This is now spreading as a belief among young people. With the public schools teaching homosexuality as an alternate lifestyle to elementary-age children, it makes it that much easier for Elton John's statement to be accepted as fact.

If you have children or grandchildren in school, sooner or later this topic will come up, or they'll accept it and say nothing to you so as not to 'make waves'. If the topic does come up, you'd better have a realistic answer if you want to help them, and saying that he wandered off to 'never-never' land' for 18 years 'will not fly'.

And by writing this, you prove that you haved not read Meier's work, but are counting him guilty by association of being a scholar. He has done nothing that you claim, but is faithful to the true witness of the Scripture while drawing from the history and culture of the time - something that you yourself are trying to do. I say read the work, and then come back and tell us all why you disagree.

Anything written more than three generations after Jesus' time with us must be studied with care, due to the ease with which mythology can affect what is written.

You are aware that John Meier is perhaps the most careful biblical critic alive, right? I mean, the dude literally wrote the book on historical Jesus methodology.
