The Old Man turned 100 in January so it was only a matter of time. Once he got his letter from the Queen I suspect his interest in carrying on waned a little. The worst bit for me was the year of 3.00am calls which turned out to be false alarms.
He died in a nursing home in Regional Vic too far away for me to get there in time. Getting there was a three day drive complicated by Covid borders. Between dementia and morphine I wasn't missed.

My parents died when I was quite young. I feel guilty sometimes feeling a sense of relief that I don't have to go through all the problems I guess you did. And that my wife did recently. But 100 eh? Damn fine innings.
I remember Biden's comment at a eulogy some time back when he said that there will always come a time when the memory of those lost will bring a smile rather than a tear. But it does take time.
