  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought AC3 was the best. AC4 I just couldn't get into. I really enjoyed the American revolution storyline.

It wasn't the storyline for me. It was the mechanics, they took a game that took place mostly in cities and stuck it in the middle of the woods for at least the first few hours. I enjoy the whole running through the city and jumping from one building to another thing.

And combat got easier... it was easy before.. but wow.

So am I the only one who's into RPGs here? LOL

Not at all!

Recently purchased Might and Magic X.

Call of Cthulthu: Dark Corners of the Earth is one of my favorite games.

Then again when I think of RPG I generally think of oldschool d&d.

What did you play? I was big into shadowrun for a while.

Oh man, D&D 2nd edition, 3rd, 3.5 I've played most of the World of Darkness settings, Gurps...

I'm currently playing a homebrewed game while running a 3.5 game.

I thought AC3 was the best. AC4 I just couldn't get into. I really enjoyed the American revolution storyline.

I'm with Terrance, the story was mostly fine (though I didn't care for Connor that much) but it was the mechanics that felt out of place. I'm used to sprawling cities built on top of each other, discovering the little nooks and crannies within them and the architectural masterpieces. None of which existed in America at the revolution. I think there were some innovative concepts in AC3 that I liked such as the homestead but it just wasn't my favorite.

Now AC4 is shaping up to be quite awesome but I'll admit I'm not that far into it yet.

So am I the only one who's into RPGs here? LOL

NOPE! Besides playing that classic Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 and Pathfinder, I play a fair amount of Japanese RPGs and some current, Western ones though I will say its the genre I currently lag behind the most in.

What are your favorite RPGs?

(though I didn't care for Connor that much)

One thing that threw me off in the early game was the change from young Connor to adult Connor. Maybe it's just me but they looked like they were two different people.

When it comes to the AC series... my favorite is still the first. Alot of it had to do with really enjoying the story and playing a game not set in a familiar setting, ie medieval europe.

So what did they do on the second game(s)? Atleast it was renaissance europe.

Haha, that too! I was thinking more along the lines of paper and pen rpgs.

I've played Basic D&D (Holmes version), AD&D e1, AD&D e2, D&D e3-3.5, Gamma World, GURPS, Champions, V&V, Rolemaster, Spacemaster, Traveller, Svavelvinter, and more that I don't recall off hand.

FYI, free Open Beta keys for Elder Scrolls Online are available. They've opened up beta for just this weekend to see how the servers handle high populations. You can get the key from curse.com, then go to elderscrollsonline.com, create an account, then redeem your key. Then you can download the client.

I know what I'll be doing this weekend. :D

What are your favorite RPGs?

Tabletop I've been involved in a 4th Edition campaign for about 5 years now. We don't play often so we're only level 10, but it's been fun. I'm also involved in a 2E campaign and a Next campaign. I'm also trying to pull a (everybody boo and hiss) GURPS game together online as the GM but it's proven difficult with everybody's schedule being weird.

Gaming wise, I love the older Final Fantasy games. Before they became Final Hallway and tried to get you to do the least amount possible during battles. The Elder Schools games are ones I have put an embarrassing amount of time into. I also played EverQuest and World of Warcraft a ton. I have Guild Wars 2 but haven't played in a while.

I recently got into the Persona series of games with Persona 4 Golden and I'm now playing though Persona 3 FES. That actually got me to pick up Shin Megami Tensei IV which has been a lot of fun.

I think I am done with new MMO games. I have played almost every single one launched and the only ones that had any lasting power for me were WoW and Eve Online. I haven't played WoW really since the Panda expansion which I just couldn't get into so quit a few weeks after launch. The new exp looks interesting though and the fact you can boost a character to 90 when you preorder may just make me check it out.

I resemble that remark. Holmes D&D, AD&D, Traveller, Cyberpunk, Vampire, and Call of Cthulhu, natch. The current edition of CoC has a lot of names on the title page... mine is somewhere near the bottom.

Moved on into more homebrew systems, and thence to theater larps.

How could I forget Call of Cthulhu?!? I've game mastered CoC.

What was your part to play in CoC?

I've also played Shadowrun and Vampire.

Moved on into more homebrew systems, and thence to theater larps.

I have played one session of a Vampire LARP.

As for MMORPGs, I've played a few (DaoC, Everquest II, EVE Online, Conan, and a few others), and I look forward to the next EverQuest game.

I wrote a few articles for The Unspeakable Oath back in the day. One of the articles was about insanity and the historical (and horrible) treatments for it in the 1920s. Chaosium contacted me, and with a couple more writers, I helped expand that into an official CoC supplement about insanity. And then some bits of that got incorporated into the core rules. And that's why my name's on there.
