I totally remember that game and beating it. :)

Yeah I probably beat it around 50 times. By far my favorite Sega game, and my favorite Sonic game in general.

For some reason I could never really get into Zelda. The only one I played through was Twilight Princess.

Tried finding a good clip of the last of us, but all of them are filled with language unfortunately. Lol.

Still a touching game. Really manages to transport you into a different world.

I had a midi of Gerudo Valley as my ringtone on my first cellphone. But I'm too lazy to set any ringtones on my current phone. I should though. ^_^
My sister used to have Navi's "Hey" as her text message notification but she said it was very startling. ^_^

That's awesome! And I so just downloaded Gerudo Valley on my phone. And yeah, the Hey is startling, but it definitely gets my attention...and I love it. People hear it and smile. ^_^

As of right now, my ring tone is:

I know, right? I was so freaking happy whenever I beat it because it was one of the only games I could beat by myself when I was a child. I always had to get my bro to help me beat other games.

Such sweet victory. :unbelievable:

It's not the usual sort of game I would play. It's heavily story-driven and your character has the ability to reverse time. You have to make choices/decisions throughout the game in different situations which overall affect the storyline as a whole.

It's quite neat actually and is quite close to reality in terms of situations and interaction

Last weekend I started playing Tales of Monkey Island, I may play it some more this weekend. :) I haven't gotten far but it seems fun so far.
I've played Escape from Monkey Island before, but haven't played the previous titles (except I think I might have tried one of them once, briefly).

Edit: Does anyone have any current rpg video game recommendations?

Yes, I do. ... Any Final Fantasy title before 13. :p

Okay, but seriously, that depends, Miss Kitty. Are you thinking of just current RPG's that have only very recently been released? Or can the recommendation also be old and classic?

I have Navi's "Hey!" as my text msg notification and her "Look!" as an important notification on my cell phone. ^_^

You know, speaking of that, nearly everyone I know seems to think Navi's voice is incredibly annoying throughout Ocarina of Time, and it seems to be by far the popular opinion throughout gaming culture on the Internet. But for some reason she just never bothered me no matter how many times I would hear the "Hey!" and "Watch Out!" Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with her?:mmh:

I've played those. :p I've also played 13... well I played it maybe about a week and got far enough to see that it wasn't getting any better.
I was thinking more recent as something new to play. I've noticed that the older games (the ones that were good) went up in price. So I was just wondering if there were any new rpgs out. But if you can only think of old ones feel free to recommend those. :D There are a lot of haven't played yet.
My favorite snes rpg was chrono trigger, then final fantasy vi (and I've played several others on snes a long time ago); on ps1 my favorites were ff viii and ff ix. I think my favorite on ps2 was dark cloud. But I'm probably forgetting some..

My sentiments exactly. :D

But alas, no, I cannot recommend any current ones, as it just dawned on me that I don't think I have kept up with new games in the RPG culture in as much as five years.

So for older stuff that I have played at some point in the last few years, if you still have the means to play ps1 games, I highly recommend Tales of Destiny 1 and 2. The battles are not turn-based in them, being active time on a 2-d field and really fun to play. And if you have a PSP, I recommend the RPG that I am getting through right this moment, a strategy RPG called Tactics Ogre. Pretty stupid title name, but the battle system is okay and I am really fascinated by the story. Also the character artwork is really attractive.

The only new rpg I've played is Witcher 3. Amazing freedom, good combat, epic quests and great story, the best visuals-- loads of gore and adult content, so it's definitely not for everyone and hard to recommend.

I have a ps2 so I can play ps1 games on that. I will look into tales of destiny. How would you rate the story in those games?
Alas I don't have a psp and I've also discovered I'm not a fan of tactics style games. I had final fantasy tactics on ps1, and sold it to a used game store because I just couldn't get into it. I also have a lord of the rings tactics style game on gba (I had purchased it unaware that it was tactics style). It's okay.. I played it a little.. but I just couldn't get into it.

I had never heard of that game before. When you mentioned gore, etc that made me not so interested. But I googled it and watched a gameplay teaser; it looks interesting and reminds me of how skyrim looks except way better graphics. What types of weapon combat can you use in it? I guess both games also remind me of Fable III which I've played more and really enjoyed.

The gore is definitely a drawback. But the world is so immersive, and the story is so good that I really enjoy the game despite its drawbacks. The combat is nothing super new. You have a heavy attack with your sword and a quick attack. You have a dodge and a roll. Easy to use, hard to master. Preparation is key, knowing what you're hunting, what its weaknesses are, and planning accordingly with your consumables, such as sword oil or potions to increase your stats. You also have some limited powers called "signs", one is a blast that can stagger or knock down an enemy, another is a mind trick that can daze and at higher levels even take over weaker enemies, one is a blast of fire, and the last one is an area of effect that slows down enemies that step inside. Oh, and you have a power that creates a shield that can absorb one blow, which doesn't sound like a lot, but can be absolutely crucial.

The storline has many choices you can make, and they do effect the story and its paths.

I know what you mean. She never bothered me either...in fact, I looked for her notifications in the game. Yeah, more often than not she stated the obvious, but sometimes I was able to learn something new thanks to her information.

I can't remember ever hearing people say she was annoying. But I guess I can see how people would say that. I think she's cute. :D She should be in all the zelda games. I kind of expected her to be in all the zelda games after that. :(
Ahh... nothing can beat Ocarina of Time for me....
I remember the first time I played the game we had rented it, and I was very skeptical to play n64 from having played snes. But I loved ocarina of time. :D

I have a ps2 so I can play ps1 games on that. I will look into tales of destiny. How would you rate the story in those games?

I think the story in both are pretty good, with a generally good cast of characters.

ToD1 follows the adventures of a nineteen year-old kid named Stahn who starts out just wanting to see the world and find fortune and fame, but he gets caught up in the antics of a pair of female hunters named Rutee and Mary early on and they find themselves tasked by a kingdom to investigate an incident at a nearby religious temple as penance for a petty crime. Escorted by a kid swordsman named Leon who speaks and wields a blade with stoic authority in the service of that kingdom, the heroes discover at the temple a foul plot afoot where some of the priests of that religion have gone rogue and aim to use a religious artifact they stole from the temple as a means to conquer the world. And the plot goes from there. If you remember the two or three times I mentioned to @Squeakers that her old avatar reminds me if one of my favorite heroines in gaming, Philia Felice, Tales of Destiny 1 is the game that Philia comes from, a kindly priestess in the religious order of Atanomi who joins the heroes on their quest, feeling personally betrayed by her mentor who headed the scheme and wanting to find justice for the world.
tumblr_o21oem4CCJ1qewu52o1_500.jpg

(Philia is the green-haired girl in the picture.)

And ToD2 is actually even better in my opinion.:)

Both not-so-well-known as their modern counterparts in the Tales series but still classic RPG's in my opinion.

It sounds complicated. ^_^
The only complicated thing about the combat is that your powers aren't mapped to buttons, you select which one you want active at a time, and can only have one active. Switching is easy though, you just hold down a button to bring up the select wheel which slows down time until you decide which one you want active- once it's active, you just press a shoulder button to fire it off.
