While watching the final set of a tennis match on the TV set, my wife set the dinner set down on the table just as one of the players set upon the judge for calling his ball out. He had done it before so he seems set in his ways.​

Try and interpret that using only one of the many meanings of of the word "set"

Lets try this.. While worshipping the Lord I worshipped St paul for for Christ being in Him so I could show God that as I was worshipping Him as I worshipped Paul..

We do not worship the saints, we treat our departed brothers and sisters in Christ with respect and love, that is what the word "venerate" means when used by a Catholic or Orthodox Christian, I do not care what Websters has to say, this is just a gotcha! thread not real debate but just name calling and pointing.

Ya know, my priest gave a homily today about veneration of relics and quoted St. John of Damascus who had quoted bits of Scripture that had actually justified veneration of saints and relics.

This is the problem with Bible Alone thinking.

Where in Scripture does it tell us as Christians how to worship?
Where in Scripture does it say we should ignore those who have lived as God intended?
Where in Scripture does it say to go by your own private theology?
Where in Scripture does it say to have different conflicting thoughts on the one subject?
Where in Scripture does it say to call any "liturgical" Church a harlot?
Where in Scripture does it say one can have slaves?
Where in Scripture does it explicitly mention the Trinity?
Where in Scripture does it say to have more faiths than there are gamblers in Las Vegas?

Need I continue?

Where in Scripture does it say we should ignore those who have lived as God intended? It does not say to ignore them...God's word commends them!!! Try Hebrews chapter 11

Where in Scripture does it say to go by your own private theology? How are we going by our own theology when we are going by God's own word?

Where in Scripture does it say to have different conflicting thoughts on the one subject? Nowhere...
We can't just take what we want and leave out what we don't want to see just to please ourselves!!!

Where in Scripture does it say to call any "liturgical" Church a harlot? What does the word "Liturgical" mean?

Where in Scripture does it say one can have slaves? Doesn't James call himself "a bondservant of God and or the LORD Jesus Christ" in James 1:1

Where in Scripture does it explicitly mention the Trinity?

indeed i have. and nowhere in it did i find "you can only believe explicit statements contained herein!" my faith is in Christ, not in a book. Christ cannot be contained by a book.

i did not mock the Bible. where does the Bible say any of this that you are saying?! its in your Protestant tradition to raise up the Bible to such a high point, but the Bible does not claim such things for itself. Christ is not wholly contained in ANY book!! He is infinite!

God still speaks to ppl today -- is a direct experience of God not valid bc its not contained in the Bible? you're line of thinking would say so. what did Christians do before the NT was written? did they go by feelings? or perhaps does the truth exist as absolute truth whether or not its written down? where does the Bible say that every single minute point of Christianity is contained in it? what about someone who cant read? oh my they cant read the Bible! how could they ever be a Christian, right?

Well, it's just like scripture....how you should interpret scripture by scripture rather than take on verse and build a war around it.....instead you should read the Bible as a whole, for it all goes together perfectly and interprets itself............why am i saying this?...because you believe things that go against scripture! You believe things that are unscriptural and wrong! We are not to pray to mary> period!

Oh.....and They do have the Bible on cd, mp3, and dvd......as well others can read it for them!

Scripture tells us to no go beyond what is written.. So us who believe and are obedient to the word as we are told to be don't do this.. Where are we told to do what ever we feel like it just because someone says that it was handed down orally? Or because it was practiced way back when in History? Where is is written that the church is built on the History of men and not on the sure foundation of Christ and His Written word? For indeed the church is to be the pillar and upholder of truth.Jesus said Father sanctify them in truth. Your word is truth... Also written is God seeks those who worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Jesus says the words that I speak unto you are Spirit and they are life. Jesus also said that Gods word is truth..
