Vaccine / religious belief correlation

Have we now reduced expectations to "a significant share" (since nothing on this forum/survey is proving out the idea that they're "more likely" than other people or that there is a "correlation")?

What I mean is that among the anti-vaxxers, I'ld expect people to be statistically be more likely to hold fundamentalist beliefs as opposed to the rest of the population.

I'm not saying anything about how high or low that number would be.
Just that it will be higher (in %) then the rest of the population.

OK, I'm probably leaning on you more than I should, but there's really no reason to make this another foray against the dreaded "fundies." It's really the way-out liberals who are basing their apprehensions on junk science or rumor or something like that rather than any Scriptural admonition who are most likely to be in the anti-vaccine camp. That, for example, is why it's much more common a thing in California than Oklahoma.

That is generally not my experience. While yes, there are certain fundamentalist religious groups that refuse or are reluctant to vaccinate, the anti-vax movement is fueled much more by people who are generally well educated and middle class. Educated enough to think they understand the science, and well off enough to devote time to it. Religion doesn't seem to play a role.

Well, really, that's the way the word is normally used. I'd be very interested to be corrected on that point if the OP had members of non-Western religions in mind, especially since we can hardly tell who the fundamentalists are when it comes to Islam. Then too, the OP spoke of the issue in this way--"vaccine efficacy / safety"--and asked for the readers if they'd vaccinate their own family members. Are there any Taliban members here at CF?

Hopefully not, but there are Muslims, as well as followers of other religions. The OP can confirm his intentions if he reads this.

As I said before, I would be interested to see any studies on this. And particularly on whether or not there is a correlation between religiosity and anti-vaxing. I'm not convinced there will be, vaccines seem to be a rare aspect of irrationality to which fundies don't really subscribe.

The days following his shot, he became very lethargic and then autistic.
