  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yea,
Our Church Once A Every 2 Weeks Washes All The Plastic Nursery Toys In Hot Bleach Water, And They Rinse Each Toy In Hot Water. It Kills Germs And Sanitizes Things. You Do Want To Make Sure That You Rinse Well Though. My Husband Bleached Our Daughters Nipples And Then Boiled Them And Then Ran Them Through The Dish Washer. He Was A Fanatic Lol

I don't use bleach for anything... it's toxic.

For bottles/nipples, I wash by hand in hot soapy water or stick them in the dishwasher.

For toys, I use a Melaleuca product for cleaning (all my cleaning products are Melaleuca or similar).

Regular old vinegar would work just as well, if not better, on toys.

If you are using Clorox brand bleach it is perfectly safe to clean anything with it. Just be sure to use the proper dilution ratio....usually 1 part bleach to 10 or 20 parts water then be sure to rinse with plain water after cleaning. I generally soak my childrens blocks and hard plastic toys in bleach and water once a month then rinse with plain water...they've never gotten sick but I always use CLOROX brand.

here's a link to help you and explains how bleach breaks down and doesn't harm people

In a professional day care we had to sit all the plastic toys in buckets of water with bleach. Then rinse them well to sanitize them according to code.

I use a store bought natural cleaner and water it down way more than they say for everything else. For toys when a sickness rolls through I use vinegar.

Never for bottles. If you are worried steam clean them. They have microwave bottle steamers.

I never use bleach, period, but would especially never use it on children's bottles or toys. I boiled bottles without any solution, and vinegar is good to use for toys, but since the house ends up smelling like a fish and chip shop, use tea tree oil afterwards to counteract the smell; plus tea tree oil itself is anti-bacterial.

Honestly, I'm a bit suss on so many things that are supposed to be safe, and don't think much of government standards when it comes to allowing these things to be sold to the public. I always research these things myself, rather than simply relying on the manufacturers/governments claims of safety.

I think if you wanted to wash toys in it, make sure it is diluted (I have never used bleach to wash my kids toys though)

If I get around to washing the kids toys I use soapy water, usually dishwashing detergent. I would NEVER use bleach to wash bottles/teats/anything that is going to come in contact with baby food. There are so many ways to sterilise baby items that bleach isn't necessary.

I used to just boil my kids dummies/bottles etc. Surely that would kill all the germs.

I tend to lean towards making things clean, but you don't have to go overboard because I am sure it isn't good for developing immune systems.

Agreed.

We use vinegar and baking soda when regular soap and water won't cut it

Yep.

We air the house out if we have to sanitize for any reason. We just shut off one section and air that one out for an hour or so, then reopen and shut windows, and do the other end.
