A rams horn useed by the priest in Israel for a number of reasons.

Jos 6:5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

I was watching a program earlier today about a Messianic Jewish festival and they began the festival with the blowing of the shofar. I immediately thought of ya Flaglady...

As you get more accustomed and louder with blowing from the corner of your mouth, you might want to start moving the mouth-piece more towards the center of your mouth. You will find that by pursing/pouting your lips to different extents, you can actually extract different pitches. Of course the different sounds are never going to be melodious (it is afterall an instrument of warfare) but you may like the different pitches that your shofar can produce.

In the bible when you read blow the trumpet they are refering to a shofar.


The shofar was used as a declaration of war. When the enemy was spotted the shofar was sounded to declare war. Today it still used as a declaration of was but not physical war spiritual war

We don't use flags our pastor is still kinda old fashoined we do once in while use a shofar not as often as I would like though. I think the flags would be neat give me one. Give it time. But I have been know to just about match the sound of the shofar with my voice.

Thank you, goy, for those tips! I have actually discovered - quite by accident- the blowing from the corner of the mouth - make your lips go numb after a while! I'll try a different position. You are a pet!

I have began to wonder about the shofar. Do you think it is the shofar that is spoken of when the Bible says that the trumpet would be blown at the rapture? Can you imagine that piercing shofar shouting across time and eternity causing the saints to rise?

It certainly is - in some versions of the Bible, it actually mentions the shofar (but I'm afraid I can't tell you which!)

Throughout the OT at least, wherever the English translation says trumpet, the Hebrew is shofar. The NT was written in greek unfortunately...

Once in a while, we have 'extreme' worship times in our meetings

and anyway, my fellow worshippers are used to me letting forth with war cries of some considerable decibels whilst I'm using the flags!!!!

Just fancied getting one and using it when it was appropriate (but not without seeking the pastor's permission beforehand, of course!)
