I'm getting there! Discovered that if I put it in the corner of my mouth it's easier! Played it over the phone to a friend and she was almost hysterical with laughter! (But she thought it was awesome, too!)

yeah good for ya!

a bit tricky. you've got to make a vibration on your lips in order to produce the sound. It's not like a whistle, which makes a sound as long as you blow air thru it.

sometimes when you dont get it right, it sounds like a fart!^_^

but when you get it right, it sounds loud and awesome!

btw, does yours come pre-treated ie they got rid of the stench and smell of the dead rotting sinews inside?

My wasnt treated, so I had to DIY it. Still has a little smell. Wife sometimes complains abt the smell when I blow it. ha ha.

BTW you can hear the various ways the shofar is blown and what they symbolise here: (make sure you turn up your volume)

http://www.shofarbetzion.com/learn_the_shofar.htm

I have no idea how they get the different notes. It's hard enough just getting it to sound.

My personal opinion, I'm more of a person that would like to see these things used in church, however... most churches are too old fashioned. Most churches limit how much they praise and worship and that kinda irks me.

I do mimes and skits.... I do interpretative dance with a lot of songs... but I don't feel I'm really getting all into it like the Lord would want... because around here they are kinda like really tight about what goes on...

Just do what you do for God and blow the shofar so loud it reaches me here in West Virginia. ;)

I'll do my best, SoldOut! And I'll pray for your fellowship to be more open minded for you.

Neat website, Andrew. Thanks for the tip! I'm getting on with the playing of it and though so far I can make a reasonable sound, I can't always make a sound! (and yes, it does sound like a f**t when you fail!) Mine is remarkably un-smelly but the taste is awful! Tastes like a dog bone, but then it would, wouldn't it? Guess I'll get used to it.

Still, they say practice makes perfect, don't they?

Thanks everyone, for your encouragement. God bless!

I've gotta say that during times of extreme worship, the sound of the shofar reminds me that the Father that we serve is quite able to bend the heavens and to break into our little existence to rescue even one of His children. I almost always have to lay down prostrate at the sound of the shofar, if out of nothing else but respect for the God that we serve.

That's exactly how I feel about it. I went to raves and parties where I acted like a fool and didn't worry about what people thought about me. Therefore, I am going to worship with the same fervency. I'm not even going to let my flesh keep me from offering up my little bit of worship. Have you ever thought about that? When we each offer up our little bit, how big that worship becomes...

Don't you just love that feeling when you're able to lay down or bow down in total surrender to God.

I was just watching Bambi with my daughter the other day, and noticed something. When Bambi's dad came into the meadow, as the king of the forest, everything bowed in surrender and submission to him and who he was. Tears filled my eyes as I thought of the little girl in my arms and the king that I serve--and I just wanted to bow down to him right there in my living room. He really is so good.

Yes, I spotted that as well. Disney caught the mood of the moment perfectly, didn't he? I often go face down or even prostrate myself in church (or even at home!) when the moment takes me. You can't beat the sense of awe when you obey the call to be humble and reverent in the presence of God.

Somedays my daughter can do that one little thing to break through the hardness of my heart after a long day on the job. You see, she was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome when my wife was three months pregnant. We screamed about how unfair it was, and we blamed God for giving us more than we could handle. We wanted the normal life that everyone else had. Finally we surrendered to the fact that if God had enough faith in us to give us this "gift", we should have enough faith to recieve it. On November 11 of 2002, Olivia came into our lives completely and totally whole. The doctor's said they just made a mistake, but I've got a God that doesn't make mistakes. I questioned God about it one day, though, and He said our surrender to allow God to be God is all He was looking for. Therefore, that is why I just can't stop praising His Name. That is why I long to blow the shofar, if for no other reason than to show that I want to be totally and completely under His Headship.

I have recognized God doing the same thing in my life in the little things. When I give up what I want He gives me what I need.
