using a shofar

Can anyone tell me if there are protocols regarding the use of a shofar? Such as, can a woman use one or is it regarded as a specifically male thing?

Hey, I have a short video of me blowing the shofar. I bought it from Israel, lugged it all the way back cos it wouldnt fit into my suitcase!

Yes I'm only too aware of that! My sister is a vegan and is having a very hard time understanding why I would want such a thing! But the latter part of your comment - yes, that's why I want to use one!!!!!

Extreme worship, I suppose, is being out and out rock, boisterous and expressive, using 'edgy' music and dancing, clapping, shouting, etc. Also, maybe using things liked tambourines, shofars(!) and such. My church considers itself 'extreme'. And we occasionally have 'undignified' times of worship as in 2 Samuel 6: 14-16 & 20-22

One way to explain this is the story of the husband and wife who went to a marriage counsellor becos their marriage was on the rocks. The counsellor found out that the husband was not happy becos the wife didnt cook well or clean the home well.

In her defence, the wife said that she wasn't doing these things well becos she needed to know that the husband would still love her despite her failures.

IOW, she could never excel in her role as a wife becos she was not free to fail.

But if she was free to fail, and was loved by her husband even when she fails, she would have the strength to do so much better.

My pastor explained it a lot better though. Anyway this is another topic altogether.

Got my shofar in the post today - it's rather smaller than I wanted but I've already made a sound with it!! (Takes some effort, tho but, doesn't it!)

I'm getting there! Discovered that if I put it in the corner of my mouth it's easier! Played it over the phone to a friend and she was almost hysterical with laughter! (But she thought it was awesome, too!)
