• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wasn't referring to christians in general, or even those who post on this forum, but those who post in the homosexuality threads.

Here you have it folks, more evidence to support the idea that the main reason some people are against homsexuality is because it's "icky", but they try to hide behind the bible to justify their prejudice.

I imagine a fat heterosexual couple getting it on would be icky, which is why I don't watch two fat people getting it on - funnily enough (or anyone getting it on for that matter).

Even if they don't, you still ought to tell them rather than let them stay deluded.

More opinions provided as if they were fact. I know of no reason to believe that your opinion is correct.

Okay, first non-gay christian then. My point is that 99.99% of the christians who post in these threads attack gays, so I am taken by surprise when one doesn't. The post I was responding to sounded like an attack.

I don't believe that that is true. There are quite a lof of christains here, at least in this forum that, who support gay rights.

The Donkey vs Elephant thing shows a much stronger correlation with support or non-support of gay rights than christian or not.

You're just prejudiced against me because I happen to be FAT, aren't you?

(just kidding!)

well, if nothing else, archie, you are predictable!!! always have the pedophile card at the ready when you are talking about the completely unrelated phenomenon of a victimless activity. i am reminded of a hymn:

play it over and over again.
let your record, be unbroken
and we will know how all your posts will begin.

when we talk of, two men sharing
a love that you think they should have to hide,
then you see them abusing children,
perhaps it's not them that keep this hidden deep inside.

Tolerance does seem to be a trait of the jackass...

(party).:)
Christians, only the other hand, vary on their level of tolerance towards their fellow (wo)man.

That's certainly a good example of the use of prayer as a weapon and the presumption the person has a particular "carnal nature".

...but just as there are christians that cheat on their wives, steal, lie, cheat, murder...their behavior is wrong... their choice of action..the wrong one.

What a cruel comparison.

we don't agree with some of your choices..

This certainly does not speak for all Christians. Many Christians are cognizant sexual orientation does not involve choice and would not presume to judge another anyhow.

The only part of you that should ever die is your sinful nature once you have accepted Jesus as the lord of your life.

True in general, but this has no application regarding the matter of one's sexual orientation.

the truth is that there is no sin in having a homosexual orientation, but God only allows Christians to have sex in marriage, and He's only created heterosexual marriage.

God had zero to do with the institution of marriage. Of course, if that were true, it would reveal the evil nature of god. I do not believe such an evil god exists.

Those of us with the sexual brokenness of same sex attraction are called by Him to repent from homosexual sex, and to live a godly life of sexual purity for His glory.

No, there is nothing to repent of in that regard except perhaps unwise unloving sex with partners of all sorts, which does not address sex between loving same gender couples.

There are unrepentant homosexuals on here who will tell you that God wants you to have homosexual sex.

This is somewhat true though of course LGBT Christians repent of their sins but know being in loving same gender physical relationships are not among them. We do not advise people to go willy-nilly tricking, however, whatever sexual orientation they are, for the most part. OTOH we do not have the squeamishness and judgementalism about normal sexuality of average men and women that some religious extremists have, either.

They are disregarding the New Testament of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. Please read it and ask God to reveal His truth to you.

Of course, there's nothing regarding loving same gender physical relationships of today in the NT or the OT. The usual texts of terror cited by heterosexists are taken out of context by them to advance a hateful agenda.

Your "proof" is bible quotes.

What is your evidence that the bible is anything other than the word of delusional ancient men?

Seeing as how this is a Christian site, the assumption that the Bible is inspired (in full or in part) comes standard.

That is a canard:

Oxford Companion to the Bible:

: "Leviticus 20.13 prohibits sexual relations between men, defines
them as an 'abomination,' and places them under the death penalty (see
also Lev. 18.22). Ethical considerations such as consent, coercion, or
the power imbalance inherent in adult-child relations are not legally
relevant in these passages (nor in the surrounding levitical laws on
adultery, incest, and bestiality). Thus, regardless of the sexual
relationship of the participants (a man and his consenting male
partner, an adult male whom he had raped, or a child victim), all are
equally culpable, since all are equally defiled (see Philo, De spec.
leg. 3.7.37-42).

: "Like Leviticus, Paul does not employ the ethical categories of
consent or age for distinguishing between sanctioned and condemned
sexual relations. His letters contain linguistic and conceptual
parallels to the levitical laws about same-sex sexual relations. Thus,
1 Corinthians 6.9-10 states that "the ones who lie with men" (NSRV:
"sodomites"; cf. Lev. 20.13) will not "inherit the kingdom of God"
(see also the Deutero-Pauline 1 Tim. 1.10; and see Ethical Lists).
Paul describes male-male sexual relations as "impurity" and asserts
that such men "deserve to die" (Rom. 1.24-32). Paul extends
prohibition to include sexual relations between women (Rom. 1.26) as
do other postbiblical Jewish writings. Like other writers in the Roman
world such as Philo, Ptolemy, and Martial, Paul sees same-sex sexual
relations as transgressions of hierarchical gender boundaries. For
example, "unnatural" (Rom. 1.26) most likely refers to the women's
attempt to transcend the passive, subordinate role accorded to them by
nature. Similarly, the men have relinquished the superordinate, active
role (see 1 Cor. 11.13) and have descended to the level of women.

: Some postbiblical Jewish and early Christian writers specifically
define the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 18-19.28; cf. Judg. 19) as
same-sex relations rather than as rape or inhospitality; see, for
example, Jude 7 and Philo, De Abrahamo 26.134-36 (cf. 2 Pet. 2.6;
Testament of Naphtali 3.4-5; 4.1).

: Biblical prohibitions of same-sex love directly influenced later
Roman law and, indeed, Western legal statutes until the present (e.g.,
sodomy statutes in the U.S. criminal law). See also Sex.--Bernadette

What is there to call it. Everyone has a lifestyle that they choose to follow. A lifestyle is a way in which you live. I see no trivialization occuring here.

It is used by hatemongering preachers and the like, often in a singsong voice, to harm, hurt, and denigrate LGBTs. The term "sexual orientation" is generally appropriate.

Put it this way: Paris Hilton has a "lifestyle". I don't. She has millions. I have laundry. The term is used to describe the situations of the rich and famous. From that, it is an effort to dismiss LGBTs as superficial, meaningless people incapable of love by people who hate them. One does not generally speak of the "heterosexual lifestyle" in equivalency.

I know many straight people who would actually feel discusted by being with another member of the same sex.
Yup! But I completely understand how gay men can be attracted to other men. Men are hot. And I don't let my "ick" response make me decide to deny others civil rights.
