Democratic U.S. mayors said on Friday their cities would welcome illegal immigrants, dismissing President Donald Trump’s threats to transport people detained at the border to “sanctuary cities” as illustrating the White House’s callous approach to the issue.

Well, yeah, that's what it meant to be a sanctuary city -- that we welcome migrants while they're getting their asylum hearings and immigration paperwork straightened out.

It troubles me that the president sees immigrants as some sort of punishment, but, sure, places like New York and Philadelphia that have welcomed immigrants in the past are probably good places for new immigrants to settle.

Of course they are going to say they welcome them. They can't really say anything else.

Personally, I prefer they be bused to Mexico City or some penal institution instead.
