LONDON — The British government has abandoned a plan to force tech firms to remove internet content that is harmful but legal, after the proposal drew strong criticism from lawmakers and civil liberties groups.

Similar efforts are underway in the European Union and the United States, but the U.K.’s was one of the most sweeping. In its original form, the bill gave regulators wide-ranging powers to sanction digital and social media companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

Good so people in Britain can still say:

Jesus Christ is the only way to get saved

Gay sex is sin and defining yourself in terms of your sins could sentence someone to hell.

Abortion is murder

Do they have to stand on a box to say it?

So basically like free speech zones, where you basically get locked in a cage, away from crowds, if you want to tell the truth?
Oddly not - exactly the same legal freedoms and restrictions of speech (i.e, no causing a breach of the peace, no incitement to commit criminal acts, no glorifying terrorism etc) apply at Speakers' Corner as do everywhere else in the country,

Speakers corner is pretty much the opposite from "away from crowds".
