  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I started the videos. They should be good! I always thought Ruth was a little confusing when I’d read it on my own but in church we recently discussed how Boaz is a foreshadow of Christ. Like most of the OT characters are.

In church we are discussing not to mistake God’s ‘silence’ for his inactivity. The example most frequently discussed is God going ‘silent’ between the OT & the NT, & how he was preparing the people for Christ, & when he did finally speak, he spoke big.

It's a wonderful series that explores their relationship in ways that aren't always addressed. You'll delight in the redemption, the totality of His plan and how everything had meaning. Nothing was happenstance or overlooked.

In church we discussed how our relationship w/ Christ is like a marriage relationship. It wasn't new information for me, but I found it really hard :(

It seems to me it is like a marriage relationship, but marriage is ultimately a flawed illustration

Here are notes for the 1st 4 videos!

OT law says Lot no inheritance for 10 generations. Exactly 10 generations later is when Ruth marries Boaz
The lineage of names in Genesis spells out a prophecy of the Savior
Everyone goes to Egypt to get out of famine but Isaac stays. Do not decide based on feelings, be led by the Spirit.
Naomi & family move out of the House of Bread & it is unfruitful. Ruth also does not have children during this time (bear fruit)
Have the right identity! If your identity is wrong, you can’t bear fruit. The Father looks at you & calls you Blessed & you are his glory, so when you don’t feel blessed or his glory, you are changing your identity. If you don’t hear the Word of God, you won’t speak right.
Opal doesn’t want to go to House of Bread, wants to stay in Moab, but something changes in Ruth in the 10 years & she chooses to follow the Lord & Naomi. She finds confidence in the Lord. She lets go of things for what the Lord desires
Before Boaz & Ruth meet, God is placing the dots for them. Required Ruth’s alignment w/ his. Ruth’s plan working in the fields. Understood needed favor w/ people. How? Not based on her looks or intelligence. She has the right attitude. The field an ordinary place

Here are notes for the last 4 videos!

Boaz comes from House of Bread. He greets the servants by encouraging them in the Lord. He gives them more than what a wage can pay. The people recognize the goodness & encourage him back. He takes interest in new people
Men making poor choices b/c of want of purpose, & to have things. But the man is the foundation next to Christ
Boaz & Ruth’s purpose are merged. Their purpose is not their marriage itself. What is beyond the wedding.
“husband” word origin means ‘master of the house.’ This is someone who has the character of the Master, Jesus Christ, so the husband’s example is Jesus. We look to him & are conformed by him, not society. Not oppressive
Confess the “love is”
“husband” as ‘master’ is held accountable. Often men are not held accountable
Boaz is very rich & also a powerful judge, but his mother is Rahab.
Boaz is older when he meets Ruth. The Jews say he could’ve been at least 80. Ruth is as at least in her 40s as well.
Your wealth is your family b/c your first ministry is to your family
Why Boaz is a model of Christ: Ruth finds grace in him, she was a Moabite but he takes her in.
Rahab was a foreigner so Boaz understands Ruth’s position
Adam: Eve was in him, she got taken out of him
It doesn’t ‘just happen’. It is God’s divine will.
Confess your desire (attitude). “I will” B/c when you say “I can’t”, you’re changing your identity & nullifying past positive confessions. Prophesy your future! Ruth says she will go to the field to find favor. Ruth puts herself into Christ’s lineage when she says ‘your people will be my people.’
Before Ruth & Boaz meet, Boaz hears of Ruth’s kindness

One thing I found helpful was learning Rahab was Boaz’s mother. One area I struggled w/ the Book of Ruth is Ruth & Boaz have it pretty well, of course they’re going to get married, people who have it pretty well get married, why should I care about their story. We knew Ruth’s background & she seemed to have heartaches, but learning a bit of Boaz’s background & that he did too changes that struggle w/ the story I had. I also found it helpful Boaz & Ruth were older. This isn’t some ‘a powerful man married a poor girl at 19 so be inspired you people a lot older than 19 who would like to be married’. The Book is a snapshot of their lives & the happy ending to a long series of heartaches they had. You read it, Ruth & Boaz meet in Chapter 2, well, that’s after a long, long, long time in their lives. Their characters had to be built, the Foundation had to be there.

"Satan can't curse the saved so he tries to get the saved to curse themselves"
Do our words really have that power…………?

The quote I posted not from the video went on to say that that Jesus gave us that authority.

I am so behind on my Bible reading. :disappointed:

But I was saying I was reading Galatians yesterday. It's so good! I will say Paul plays it straight & calls it out. I heard a pagan commentator once say how, basically, a large large chunk of "Christians" are saying he's wrong, so he's very defensive, it's like he's fighting a losing battle. He even says he fears he is w/ them. This isn't a 'Dear Timothy, you're my son & brother' kind of letter. I know a lot of people quote 'You foolish Galatians' but the whole letter is that. These are churches that are going astray & they're telling Paul (thru Christ) he's wrong. This isn't a group of of people who don't care, or don't understand, they're actively fighting against him.

But there's a lot of really good stuff in the letter. He's preaching the Gospel to them.
"They are turning to a different gospel - which is really no gospel at all!"
"If I were trying to please men, I wouldn't be a servant of Christ"
"We may be justified by faith in Christ & not by observing the law b/c by observing the law b/c no one will be justified."
"I have been crucified w/ Christ, so I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. & the life that I now live, I live in the Son of God, who loved me & freely gave himself for me."
"If righteousness could be gained thru the law, Christ died for nothing!"
"Does God give you his Spirit b/c you observe the law or b/c you believed what you heard?"
"The Scripture declares the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised may be given thru faith in Christ Jesus"
"In Christ Jesus, the only thing thing that counts is faith expressing itself in love"
"We may recieve adoptions as sons................Since you are his child, God has made you also an heir"
"You were called to be free, but do not use your freedom for sin"
"Sicne we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step w/ the Spirit"

Today we discussed the joys of childbirth. It was a really really hard message for someone who can't even get married. It was discouraging & now I feel down. The truth is I don't even really feel like I'm invited into sharing other's who have the blessing either :disappointed:

I am really struggling & feeling really down.

Right now I’m thinking the Lord provides not just to get you by, but abundantly, w/ room to spare, you don’t just get by, you don't just get a handout. So that’s all really good & makes me happy.

But does it mean marriage too. Probably not :disappointed:

No. Jesus says both marriage and singleness are gifts decided by the Creator.
His Decision.
Yeah but he gives abundantly for your needs. - so if he thinks your needs are best met single, you will be single, if married then married, keeping into account others' needs & his glory too, & your idea of your needs & his perfect idea of your needs can be different - tho his idea of your needs is absolutely right & perfect for you. If that makes sense, it's kind of rambly & a lot in just a couple sentences. Basically, he knows what he's doing for you! He meets your needs abundantantly either way! :)

His Kingdom is First. Anyone's needs, if considered at all, are way way way below that.
He Knows Perfectly that emotions are sinful almost always, and provided for the crucifixion of the person to deal with emotions - and says satisfying the emotions or trying to is sinful.

He meets our needs perfect. Where the problem rises is we think we know our needs better then he knows our needs. And we think our needs must be met NOW but he’s on different timeframe. Needs are used to advance the Gospel & b/c he is just that good to us.

The crucifixion put to death reasons for sinful emotions. But the Fruit of the Spirit is very emotion based: love, peace, joy, kindness. We are to speak to each other in song. & praising the Lord for his great work in us.
