I have no idea if there were assets there or not, and neither do you. You choose to assume so, but that's nothing more than your imagination at work.

Fact is, there is no good reason for any law enforcement agency to publicly reveal any information about undercover assets, under any circumstances. It puts those assets in immediate danger. This should be obvious, even if your only knowledge of law enforcement comes from TV.

First, there are only two cases against Trump being brought by the DOJ, Jan 6th and classified documents. Both are run by the special counsel precisely to keep the President and his political appointees out of the decision tree.

The Jan 6th case arises from the investigation into the attack on the Capitol to determine who, if anyone, was involved in making it happen. The SC found a conspiracy and charged the head of the conspiracy -- Donald Trump.

The classified documents case started when the National Archives contacted him for missing classified documents. He didn't return them and actively obstructed the search. So he was indicted for retention of classified documents and obstruction of justice.
