  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’ve been reading a book on friendship by Justin Erickson. He provides seven biblical examples of good friends for men but I think the message is useful for all believers.

It really resonates for its focus on intention, godliness, and mutual impact. These aren’t the people you choose for selfish reasons. They’re the kind that make you a better person and deepen your walk with God.

7 Godly Friendships
  • A godly mentor to disciple you: Paul
  • A solid peer to encourage you: Barnabas
  • A best friend to uphold you: Jonathan
  • A courageous brother to confront you: Nathan
  • A faithful disciple to follow you: Timothy
  • A lost seeker to hear you: Zacchaeus
  • A gracious Savior to befriend you: Jesus
This is a great starting point if you want to build intentional connections. You can gauge where you are and what’s lacking in your circle.

I highly recommend Seven Friendships Every Man Needs for men and women.
