  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

True, but that doesn't mean that whatever their doing is necessarily against Christian teachings -- it may very well be that whatever they're doing is perfectly compatible with Christianity.
Right. I tend to agree that Japan has little crimes compared to many places, and some ethics. However, without Jesus at best that might buy you a few extra years.. whoopee do.
For example, it might be the diet; we won't know unless we do some research. And if it is, Christianity has no dietary restrictions -- Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man -- So there'd be no conflict if you decided to change your eating habits to live a healthier life.
Not interested, thanks. Better to be ready to accept that our time will come and God knows exactly when that is.
If it's something in the environment -- again, Christianity has no geographical restrictions or obligations, so one could easily be a Christian in Japan as anywhere else.
True. And one born there could be a Christian in other places also.
Really, the only roadblocks are if it's genetic, or (if you're an American Conservative Christian) socialized medicine.

Not sure why a few extra years seems so important to you guys? The big issue is eternal life. This life is like grass, soon to be no more. If a few blades of grass live a few extra days in summer, whoopee do.

So why not do the research and find out how they're doing it? You've got nothing to lose.

I think that some countries have some give and take. Some might have no freedom, and have to work 16 hours a day or some such, and others might have other positive or negative things. The answer does not lie in where we live or what we eat.

Not paying attention, are you? There's no reason that you can't have Jesus and live a little longer, thus getting to spend more time with your friends and family...

Not interested, thanks. Better to be ready to accept that our time will come and God knows exactly when that is.

So why bother taking any interest whatsoever in your health? Do you assume any responsibility for your own well-being?

True. And one born there could be a Christian in other places also.

If they so chose. But why shave 5 extra years off their life in the process?

Sounds to me like you don't care when you die -- that's a pretty sad attitude.

It seems to me that the notion of Heaven leads me to believe that doctors conducting abortions are in fact doing the foetus a favour, as they are sending the unborn directly to heaven and eternal happiness.
So you think this world is so rotten that we would be better off to have never been born? That we are better off to have never experienced this world?

Well, that can happen, yes..so?

I brush my teeth sometimes.

What does this mean..? You think if a Japanese person moves to a western country they are virtually killing themselves off early?

Sounds to me like you don't care when you die -- that's a pretty sad attitude.
God cares. That is a great thing. Of course believers also care, but it might not be as all important as to those walking only in the flesh.

So... you were just arguing against that a couple of posts ago.

I brush my teeth sometimes.

So you trust God with your health up to a point -- but gingivitis is too great a risk? ;)

What does this mean..? You think if a Japanese person moves to a western country they are virtually killing themselves off early?

According to the chart, that's a distinct possibility -- if something in the environment is benefiting you, and you remove yourself from the environment, you lose the benefit.

Again, that's not a concern if the issue is genetic, but that would require more research.

God cares. That is a great thing. Of course believers also care, but it might not be as all important as to those walking only in the flesh.

And yet, I've already heard from believers with little to no compelling interest in their own lives -- that's borderline suicidal.

Nope. Of course believers can live a long time...or not. I think the issue of long lives in Japan was raised, and in that case Christianity has nothing to do with it, by and large.

So you trust God with your health up to a point -- but gingivitis is too great a risk? ;)

Moderation. We do what we can, and trust God will do the rest.

OK...but if they were believers, who cares? Maybe God wanted em somewhere else, and they did some good.

Perhaps they overstate it for effect:)

So how do they get saved, dad?
Ever heard of the age of accountability? salvation by grace through innocence vs salvation by grace through faith?

And how is this age determined?
I'm sure the Judge of all the earth has a set of [Boolean?] standards He goes by.
I mean, I'm assuming that it isn't the same for everyone.
That is correct.

There are those who have never heard of Him, there are those who are mentally handicapped, etc.

Oh, you'd just love it if he uses the same standards as you, wouldn't you?

But what if his cut off time is one nanosecond after conception?

That is correct.

There are those who have never heard of Him, there are those who are mentally handicapped, etc.

So if people who have never heard of him get a free pass to avoid it, why tell anyone at all? By keeping them ignorant, aren't you guaranteeing them access to heaven?

I mean, if you find a native fellow walking along the banks of some remote river, he has never heard of Jesus, but he is still saved by virtue of his ignorance of Jesus. But the instant you tell him about Jesus, then he runs the risk of rejecting your claims and being sent to hell for all eternity. Why would you expose him to the risk of hell? Eternal damnation? Is this something you feel it is your Christian responsibility to do?

You might want to learn what the age of accountability is.

The age of accountability varies according to the person's variables.

We all have an age of accountability.

If I find a native walking along the banks of some remote river, who has never heard of Jesus, he will someday reach that age of accountability and have to account for it ... if he hasn't already.
