  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Given how they're living, on average, about 5 years longer than the US, it might bear some looking into.

If the goal is what...eternal life, and knowledge of His word, or eating rice a few years longer?

Eating rice a few years longer:confused: Your Racial bias has been duly noted!
His statement was that perhaps they live a few years longer in Japan because they eat rice. Or whatever it is in their diet that gives them a longer life. This is backed up by modern medical science that a good diet can give you a longer life. In fact rich people live up to 10 years longer compared to poor people. Even when they live in the same city. Science assumes this is because rich people have more money and they can afford to eat better quality food. Poor people tend to eat cheap food that is lacking in value when it comes to promoting good health. For example if you want real blue berrys that will cost you three times as much as fake artifical flavoring. The flavoring has no health value. The real food has been shown to lower the risk for disease.

So if you see "Racial bias" in any of this, then maybe your projecting.

Of course the POINT he was TRYING to make is so what if you live five years or ten years longer. Jesus offers us eternal life so we can live forever. Of course the infidels do not believe in eternal life.

Do you? -- you may give lip service to it, but I don't see you rushing off to meet Jesus any time soon.

Because I care about people. If it were just me then yes I would go to heaven as quick as I could. But I am trying to take as many people with me as I can and that tends to slow people down. There is really not much of anything in this world that interests me. Sometimes people here hold onto you and they will not let you go. I do not know why, I ask them and they can not give me a reason.

Implying that they are better so live longer is similar.

Clearly they're living better if they're living longer. No reason you can't eat five more years' worth of rice and then go on to eternal life...

True. If we are talking about saved Japanese. But if so, how is it they live better than say, Aussie Christians?

Well, if it's genetic, then the Aussies (and the rest of us) are out of luck. If it's environmental, you can always emigrate.

If it's more an issue of diet and lifestyle, then we might want to follow some of their examples.

They also have universal health care over there -- again, we're probably out of luck.

The thing is about Japan, I thought it had very few Christians as a national average? So one can't attribute life spans to Christian anything.

It seems to me that the notion of Heaven leads me to believe that doctors conducting abortions are in fact doing the foetus a favour, as they are sending the unborn directly to heaven and eternal happiness.

This also applies to murderers etc.

Personally I know I will become worm food and nothing more when I die. Dad if you believe that you are immortal then knock yourself out ;)^_^

I am immortal. That doesn't mean that we are to cast ourselves down from a high pinnacle. Guess whose idea that was?

Do you wear your seatbelt? When you buy a car, will you choose one with safety features?
They should have two versions of cars; Those that are for people who share DAD's views and another version for the rest of us. DAD's version will explode the moment you turn the ignition and thus assuring a quick trip to heaven! ^_^^_^^_^^_^

True, but that doesn't mean that whatever their doing is necessarily against Christian teachings -- it may very well be that whatever they're doing is perfectly compatible with Christianity.

For example, it might be the diet; we won't know unless we do some research. And if it is, Christianity has no dietary restrictions -- Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man -- So there'd be no conflict if you decided to change your eating habits to live a healthier life.

If it's something in the environment -- again, Christianity has no geographical restrictions or obligations, so one could easily be a Christian in Japan as anywhere else.

Really, the only roadblocks are if it's genetic, or (if you're an American Conservative Christian) socialized medicine.

So why not do the research and find out how they're doing it? You've got nothing to lose.

When a believer dies, the appropriate term is sleeps. We will never die Jesus promised before the world began.
