  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone have any advice for traveling on a 6-8 hr trip via car? My hubby is going to a fsihing tounrmanet & wants me to go but I'm kinda nervous about how she will be. And not only that but my sleep depravation may be worse due to hubby snoring. (we sleep in differnt rooms so I can get sleep due to his snoring) It's near Orlando & I kinda wanna go but am not 100% sure.

If you want to go then go. She's two months old a car trip is not a problem, she'll sleep most of it anyway. And baby's, at that age especially, can sleep through anything. You really don't want to train her to only be able to sleep with only quite, dark and in her cot. You want to train her to be flexible so this is a good opportunity. I travelled for a three day train trip across the desert with my daughter when she was three months - not a problem. I did other things from the get go like putting her down to sleep in her porta cot or pram during the day in the lounge room (non-dimmed) so that she got used to sleeping in those as well as her cot. That way if I needed to go shopping I could without working around her routine, she's work around me and if I needed to go out for my date night with my husband she could sleep in a porta cot. I also did things vacuuming etc. without worrying about the noise and now I have one of the best sleepers in the world. I put her down in her bed, walk away and don't see her until morning. She's now almost 4 and still working.

As for you I would suggest either investing in ear plugs, propping him up on pillows cause sometimes that helps, or one of those things that go on their nose. Holiday or not, it would be nice to be able to sleep next to your husband.

Great advice!!!

We travelled quite a bit when the kiddo's were younger :) The younger they were, the easier it was. Bring food for her and you're set :)

Traveling with a baby is super easy. Just be sure to take enough supplies (except maybe diapers which you can buy anywhere) to last the duration of the trip. I've learned from experience that it's not nice to be in a strange place and run out of something you really need and not be able to find it where you are at. Mostly the baby will just sleep in the car as the motion helps to put them to sleep. The only thing I would say is be sure to plan for extra stops in case the baby is fussy and needs held/fed/changed what ever! So leave a little earlier that you might otherwise so you aren't rushed and the baby doesn't feel the anxiety of trying to hurry up and get there! We took a trip with our oldest son when he was 2 months old and it should have been about a 8-9 hr trip and it took us 12 1/2 hours! We made lots of stops to feed/walk/change baby!

Thanks for the advice!

She already sleeps say when I go to the store in the buggy bouncing around & such it's just my sanity of not probably getting any sleep between her & my hubby. :) And also being with her in a strange place while hubby is fishing. She's kinda got a routine down now.

You Know, I Took My 2 Month Old On A 14 Hour Car Ride And She Didn't Make A Sound Accept The Last 10 Minutes Of The Trip Then She Started Getting A Little Fussy.
When She Was A Year And A Half We Took Her On A Three Day Trip To California And The Same Thing. Only This Time We Went To The Dollar Store And Bought About 10 Dollars Worth Of Toys And Wraped Them Up And When She Started Getting A Little Ancy We Gave Her One To Unwrap And She Played With It For Hours Before Getting Board With It Then We Gave Her Another Toy To Unwrap....we Did This All The Way There, She Was Fine, Until About The Last 10 Minutes If The Trip Then She Plain Wanted Out. So Try That, Its Really Inexpensive And Works Great.

Abel was 4 months when we went to see my oldest DD, who lives 6 hrs away. He did Great in the car seat the whole time. My 10 yr old DS fed him a bottle when he was hungry, and I changed him (and pumped ;)) when we stopped (approx. every 2- 3 hrs). He did even better on the way home. He did ok while we were there too... even with unusual sounds and smells. I took his lambskin (which he sleeps on) with us so I could put it in DD's crib for him and it wouldn't be Too strange. I also took a bag of his toys, and his little receiving blankets that he likes to sleep with. Since those things were familiar and smelled like home/comfortable, he slept really well while we were there.
