  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you like to travel?
Yes

What are some places you have been?
Boise, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Raleigh, Hartford-CT, Northampton-MA, NYC and other areas of NY, and a few cities in China. Oh, and overnight in Newark, NJ. That's all that I can think of at the moment. (I realize it said some, but since I haven't traveled that much considering my age, I thought I'd include everything.)

What are some places that you would like to go?

Germany, England, Peru, Istanbul, Victoria and Ottawa, Colorado, San Francisco, Portland-OR or Seattle

Do you have any travel tips?
When flying on really long trips, choose an aisle seat at the back of the plane (unless you are wealthy and in first class). The back of the plane seems to fill the slowest and you're more likely to be able to spread out due to empty seats. (You're also close to where the food is and can help yourself to extra water and pretzels.)

ETA: I voted trains. There are some benefits to flying instead of taking a train, but overall, I tend to prefer trains. Cars are alright, too, of course.

I love boats, I love sitting on top of a boat in choppy seas too. Not choppy to the point where it's dangerous, but choppy enough that you're being rocked around. It's amazing, I love the sea spray, I love being at sea, love it, love it, love it.

Of course that's all based on little boats. I haven't been on a ferry for 10 years. Not sure if I enjoy them so much, so many people, and it's so large I don't feel like we're at sea at all.

Anyway

I love travelling, but I haven't really been to many places. A few places in Spain, Germany, France, Poland, Belgium, the Gambia, the Netherlands and the UK but that's nothing really. I want to visit more of Europe, more of the countries i've already visited and some new ones. I'd like to travel Australia, America and New Zealand, possibly South America too. There are so many countries within Africa that I would love to visit. Antarctica is another one, it looks fantastic ... basically I really, really, really want to travel the world.

But I won't, because I think about carbon footprints far too often to justify doing such extensive travelling. That and you need money. Money I haven't got.

Travel tips? Relax and enjoy yourself.

Do you like to travel?
Love, love, love it!

What are some places you have been?
Well I live in South Africa, so loads of places here of course and other places in Africa Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Malawi. I have also lived for a short while in Boston (got to see a fair amount of New England) and Edmonton (didn't see much of Canada except the Canadian Rockies, which were gorgeous!!). I've made very brief stops in London and Frankfurt.

What are some places that you would like to go?
I'm going to Austria and Czech Republic in May...I'm doing the "Sound of Music" tour in Salzburg, can't wait :hoho:
I'd love to do an extensive tour of Europe, visit friends in Australia and family in New Zealand. I also have family in Wales and Alabama that I'd really like to see.

Do you have any travel tips?

I have two:
If you're traveling overseas make two copies of important documents, like passports and airline tickets. Keep one copy separate from the original, and leave the second copy with somebody at home. Carry emergency numbers with you.

Flying to small airports is expensive. It's often more cost effective to book a flight to a major city and use public transport to reach your final destination.

Edited to add: you can save a lot of money by traveling out of season

I haven't traveled as much as I'd like to. I've been to Greece and around in Sweden and Norway (I live in Sweden)

I'd love to go to London, US and Australia.. and other places as well.

For comfort I'd choose plane but if you want to see the countryside I think other ways of getting around is better.

Didn't vote, haven't made up my mind..lol

I love car trips but I have to say planes because they are faster.

IF I had the money however I would drive ALL over this country taking my time..grab a backpack throw it in the backseat and just drive.. drive however long I wanted, stop at a place and leave when I was ready.

I love travelling muchly. I was actually looking up flight costs tonight for another possibly tour through the west coast this summer. And dreaming.

If I don't travel every few months, I get antsy and restless. I need that in my life.

I mostly travel by plane. Road trips can be fun, but I long more to get where I'm going fast to enjoy my time there as long as possible. Planes make that possible. I haven't traveled by train since I was 7 or 8. It might be interesting.

Do you like to travel? Yes - Love road trips. I travel by car and bus and I also enjoy cruising. I do NOT like to fly, unfortunately, so that limits my options in terms of where I can go.
What are some places you have been? Alaska, Bahamas, Canada, OK, West VA, Virginia, Arizona, various places in NC, SC, GA, IN, MI, and FL, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Alabama, etc.
What are some places that you would like to go? I would like to see the redwood trees in CA, the Grand canyon, and various other places in the US. I also wouldn't mind going on cruises again in the future. Right now, anything that involves flying is out. I am done with flying for the time being.
Do you have any travel tips? If you need a hair dryer, bring your own. It never fails that the hair dryer in the hotel (no matter how nice it is!) will NOT work if you don't bring your own. Don't count on the GPS - bring printed directions and a road map, too. Wear comfortable clothing. Make a playlist for long trips and have fun!

LOVE to travel! I started getting some serious wanderlust when I was in college, and it's never diminished. I wanted to drive all the way across the country, and my mom freaked (I was maybe 19 or 20 years old), so I started exploring stuff that was within a day's drive of home. I love being outside, going places, and exploring, especially when the weather's nice. I'd love to take a road trip across the U.S. and not plan anything, just head out onto the road with a map and go wherever.

Favorite places I've been: Maine, Virginia, Texas, New York City

Places I want to go: Route 66, the U.S. desert, the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone Park, and if I can ever overcome my fear of flying, England.

Travel tips: Don't overpack! Chances are, you won't use half of what you pack, and you can always buy things as you're traveling if you REALLY need them. Just go with your wallet and your sense of adventure :)

Thats an excellent tip. I always overpack. I just am one of those people who think of every possible outcome, and I want to pack to prepare for that.

And I always forget that I tend to aquire new things as I travel. :sorry:

Ask Ethie. I made her take me to target the last night I was there so I could buy another suitcase to take everything back home :D

Do you have any travel tips?

1. I love to travel; I have an adventuresome spirit.

2. I have been all over: Oregon, NYC, Florida, Ga., Tenn., N.c, S.C. Kentucky, Alabama, pretty much the whole southeast, Arizona, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany

3. I want to go to New Zealand or Australia, Japan, Wales, Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Dubai. pretty much I'm up for anywhere

4. tips: space bags the kind that you just roll the air out; you can fit so much more in your bag! If flying, wear easy slip on and off shoes and I generally try to just take a carry on so there's less hassle. If you are in a city or country that is expensive; eat at the grocery store- we did this in Switzerland; and it's a great way to learn some of the language and sample good everyday food in the country.

I love to travel all ways- but I guess my favorite is train. There is just something very old fashioned and romantic about trains. We traveled by train on our honeymoon and had private boxes for most of the time so we felt like we were traveling to Hogwarts, lol!

Do you like to travel?
I love to travel. I am an "airline brat" ~ my mom is a retired flight attendant, so I grew up travelling.
However, I hate to fly now for many reasons. 1~ Its too confined, I feel claustrophobic. I like to get out and breath, see God's creation. When you have seen the top of one cloud, you've seen 'em all.. 2~ Have you ever been in an airplane bathroom?? 'Nuf said. 3~ My parents were in the know. And now I KNOW more things about airplanes that I never wanted to ~ i.e. what people do on airplanes, where those pillows, blankets and headphones have REALLY been, etc. and last 4~ When I fly the "red-eye" (all night), I get super nauseous. Not sure why..

What are some places you have been?
Hawaii, New York, Hawaii, Florida, Hawaii, Texas and about 10 other states, Jamaica, Hawaii, a few places in Mexico, did I mention Hawaii? (We took a family trip there EVERY YEAR for 15 years. LOL)

What are some places that you would like to go?
There is only one place I am DYING to go ~ Ireland. I had a ticket to go 10 years ago, then I met my husband, decided to stay, and here I am. It is our 10 year anniversary this year ~ I think Ireland sounds like a great idea... I will fly for that one.

Do you have any travel tips?
I have a lot, but I will only list some:
~ Tissues. Carry a few packages of just regular kleenex tissues with you. They are invaluable, no matter how you decide to travel!(refer to above note about airplane bathrooms)
~ Good shoes! Make sure they are comfy, and they fit you well. If flying, the walking distance at some airport terminals is ridiculous. I think the ticket agents assign connecting flights as far as possible from each other on purpose. Also, I don't know about you, when I fly, my feet swell. Not a lot, just enough to be uncomfortable in tight shoes. Any other forms of travel require a lot of walking, and sometimes in undesirable places.
~ Keep your shoes on! Especially if traveling by air. Once you take the shoes off, the term "slip on" does not apply anymore. I actually lost a shoe on a plane once. Just one shoe, and I know what you are thinking, where could it have gone?? I have NOT A CLUE ~ vanished into thin air (pun intended:)), but needless to say, the rest of the walking was not fun.
~ See everything you can ~ When driving, stop and take in the scenery, talk to local people, go to a fruit stand... When flying, meet people! There are some strange ducks in this world, meeting and talking to some of them (emphasis on SOME) has given me the best memories and blessings in my life.
~ And last, please pack your belongings in a sturdy, not over-stuffed, suitcase. It is embarrassing seeing your underwear on the turnstyle at baggage claim. I know. It happened to me. That is one of those times where you don't grab it, but wait until EVERYONE ELSE is gone, and you quickly grab and go!
But, no kidding, I have seen people use cardboard boxes as their "luggage" ~ not acceptable! A suitcase with a strong zipper, and a bright ribbon to identify it, is an asset!

I have many more tips, if you need any, just ask!

Blessings to you!

Voted plane though I like the train too. It's more flexible if you want to see a lot of places and you sometimes get there faster by train. I mean, come on, what town has an airport in the center? :p I'd love to go inter-railing once. I think I'd have to take flights somewhere and back as well though since Finland is so difficult to get to by train (unless you go to Russia of course but that's not exactly my dream inter-railing destination LOL... I'd rather go to an organized trip there).

I've been to Estonia and Germany several times, once to Greece, once to Holland, once to India and to Switzerland and Austria when I was really small. My favorites so far were maybe India and Greece; I could think of going again for more. India is so huge though, you'd need like at least a year to get a decent idea of it LOL. :D I would really like to go about everywhere else as well. Like one near-future goal is to go to Sweden. :p Like everyone except for me has been there. Another one is Austria, where my brother is in exchange now. The western part of Russia, like St. Petersburg and Moscow would be fascinating. Actually some of my family is from a place that now belongs to Russia, so it could be interesting to get there once as well. And then there's France, Spain and Italy of course. The all have their specialties which I'd like to see...
Travel tips? Plan your budget and stick to it. I don't think traveling is worth it if you need to live on noodles for the rest of the year LOL. Also watch your phone bills and don't use your phone's internet. It's going to cost a million more then at home (a friend just came home from Brazil and had a phone bill of 300 euros instead of like 20 LOL). What else? Well choose someone you can stand for the time you're abroad. Travleing is stressy so things'll get annoying anyways.

Do you like to travel?

Yes. I love new places and new experiences.

What are some places you have been?

I've traveled all around the Eastern part of the USA, hit the Grand Canyon area, been to Canada once and Indonesia once.

What are some places that you would like to go?

I would enjoy Europe and traveling in a place with an amazing amount of history and interesting culture. I mainly just like to do trips in the USA though. Its affordable, convenient and doable.

My next trip is to California with my sister to go to Disney and visit with Ethnog/Keri.

Do you have any travel tips?

Road tripping with friends is best. Flying by plane is convenient but often more hassle and a waste of your vacation time. Eating the local food is a silly goal as it is often expensive and rarely memorable. Don't take so many pictures that you ended up seeing the sights through lenses instead of your own eyes (my biggest mistake at the Grand Canyon). Always take the unknown choice and be willing to get lost, get messy and be flexible.

On the subject of packing: skip the hair/beauty products. A brush, some mascara and an excited smile are all you need. Also plan on reusing pieces of your clothes. You can easily wear a shirt again if you freshen it up either in the hotel dryer or just shaking it out. Pants/shorts/skirts are resilient and do not get so dirty they can't be worn twice.
