  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love to travel. Fav way is by boat, followed closely by road trip. Have only been on a train a few times for short trips. Going somewhere scenic on a train would likely be great.

Don't like flying- extremely boring, and the airport hassle...

I'd like to take a canoe trip in either north or south america for a week. That would be ideal.

Too bad we can't change our poll votes. After moving out of Wisconsin, I've traveled by train enough that I don't like it as much. Though maybe because those were shorter trips and not a long Amtrak trip like the one that made me originally really like train travel. I'd change my vote to car trips. I like being able to get out and stretch or check out things I wouldn't have otherwise noticed.

Do you like to travel?
I occasionally like to travel, as long as it's by car. I haven't flown since 1997. Although I may fly again at some point, these days I limit my traveling to road trips.

What are some places you have been?
Foreign countries: Sweden, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, and Canada.

Within my home country: California, Arizona, Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida.

What are some places that you would like to go?
Among other things, I'd like to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, celebrate Mardi Gras in New Orleans, ride on a Mississippi river boat, ride my road bike in Colorado, see more of Canada, and drive on parts of historic Route 66 as I make my way across the country and back. For the most part, however, going to the mountains or the beach is enough for me.

Do you have any travel tips?
Plan ahead, and leave extra time for the unexpected. If you will be driving, it's a good idea to make sure that your car's fluids are current, and are topped off as necessary. If you're going to spend time in a city, then you may want to keep your money and identification in your shoes or otherwise out of reach of pickpockets. Bring along a few cereal bars in case you get hungry. If you plan on taking pictures, don't forget to bring extra batteries, memory cards etc. for your camera. Relax, and enjoy.
