  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Severus of Antioch was a Myaphisite NOT a Nestorian , or monoenergist

I know that is what he would say, but St Maximos the confessor and Severus' own writings concerning the incarnate Lord say otherwise

I think human cloning is evil, but really you're just creating a genetic twin of the original person. So, why wouldn't that person have their own unique spirit like identical twins each have their own unique spirits?

It would depend on where spirits come from, I suppose. Which was the question of the thread.

I don't know. A while ago I watched a movie called Never Let Me Go which was about clones. They were being used as spare parts for real people. They would give "donations" of their organs until - they died. It was okay to do this to the clones because they supposedly had no souls. I found it to be a horrifying movie.

Opens up a terrible can of worms.

First I agree that it's a horrifying thought.

But if souls come only from God, and clones have no souls, then it would mean the creation of soul-less beings. Which is horrible. But I don't think that justifies cutting them apart alive or torturing them. Animals don't have human souls, and it is still a terrible thing to torture them. And one would assume the clones still have human brains, so it is potentially more terrible to them to BE tortured than it is for animals.

And if souls came in as a biological consequence, or if God gave them anyway, then one is devaluing not only the biological life and mental suffering of the clones, but destroying the body of a human soul as well.

Was it a horror movie? Sounds like it should be. Bottom line is that I don't believe we have any rights to do any such thing. The closer we come to being able to actually do it, the more terrible.

No, it wasn't a horror movie. It was very serious. But, seriously, how do you decide if someone has no soul? I'm hoping God will just stop a human clone from ever being viable.
I don't know.

My mind used to run to a lot of fantasy. I wrote many novels and created many movies in my head, lol. That was certainly a theme that used to interest me.

We cannot measure a soul in any way that we know. If it ever becomes reality, the answer may become apparent, somehow, in ways we do not know. And there is where the horror movies come in.

I could wish mankind would have the wisdom to consider whether or not we OUGHT to do a thing, just because we CAN do it. But unfortunately, our track record demonstrates otherwise.
