Are they wrong?

Maybe?

I know this is the narrative...

"They're the most dangerous threat".

We never get to how dangerous they are....

Are we expecting hundreds dead this year? Maybe a dozen? 2 dozen?

Do you think we'll have two dozen deaths from white supremacist terrorism?

It's odd to see the left emphasize this so much. What would happen if no one dies to a white supremacist domestic terrorist all year?

Looks like new management, new focus, no surprise there. It is interesting that the number of deaths and property damage associated with "white supremacists" demonstrations does not begin to compare with the deaths and property damage associated with "black identity extremist" demonstrations
Leaked Documents Show FBI Once Ranked ‘Black Identity Extremists’ as Bigger Threat Than al-Qaida, White Supremacists.
So-called “black identity extremists” and animal rights/environmental activists were among the FBI’s top counter-terrorism priorities under President Donald Trump, according leaked documents. If you cannot trust in the integrity of Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas who can you trust?

These posts should be above partisan politics. Post holders are scrutinised before appointment, surely? These appointments are not just at the discretion of the President.

A mob of them attacked the US Capitol a few months ago. Can't believe you missed it - it was all over the news and everything.

New focus? It's the same.

From April 2019: FBI director says white supremacy is a ‘persistent, pervasive threat’ to the US

From July 2019: Wray says FBI has recorded about 100 domestic terrorism arrests in fiscal 2019 and many investigations involve white supremacy

From August 2017: FBI and DHS Warned of Growing Threat From White Supremacists Months Ago

The only difference now is that the president doesn't consider white supremacists as his supporters.

People are saying that it was just a tour of the capital.

Ana, you are so meta!

Of the 400 arrests after January 6th there were many who were affiliated to white supremicist organisations now being proscribed. I am so meta that I can suggest (before you do) that membership or loyalty to such organisations is not actual proof of belief in white supremacy, though it would not be very convincing. However it is law that counts here, not belief.

I might - if there is a moment to kill - list a few choice examples.

I can't bring myself to believe that this question is genuine.

It's genuine. I've seen evidence that maybe half a dozen were possibly white supremacists (as in, not neo nazis, but perhaps they dressed up as Hitler one Halloween or used the "ok" sign)....but I honestly haven't kept track....

I don't know the exact numbers but I'm assuming there's hundreds or maybe a thousand or more people who stormed the Capitol.

How many are confirmed white supremacists? That's your characterization of them. You're either in possession of some facts I haven't seen or....talking nonsense.

Let's go with the least definition. Apparently it's against the rules to call people white supremacists for just expressing white supremacist beliefs. (Don't ask me why, I just don't want you to get in trouble with the forum).

So anyone who is a member of a white ethno-nationalist group...as designated by the SPLC. I don't always agree with their designations....but they do retract them on occasion and try to base those designations on overt expressions of group ideology.

If it's a few, then we aren't talking about a white supremacist group.

There are some facts which have evidently eluded you, Ana, which I will post here when I get the chance (busy busy busy just now).

But to be guided by what the arrested parties have been up to and the things they have said and done is not nonsense, you know. The suspicion that white supremacists were among that crowd is not entirely unreasonable.

I'm not discounting the possibility. I fully admit I haven't paid attention to every arrest.

To my knowledge though...there have been hundreds of arrests and genuine white supremacist ties are extremely few.

No, there were members of the Oath Keepers, avowed Nazis and white nationalists, Proud Boys and people of no professed affiliation. However, people can be judged by the company they keep, especially in a demonstration. It is not as if they were just randomly strolling through town.

Not white nationalists. Anti-government...and we could say the same of Antifa.

avowed Nazis and white nationalists,

I found one former member of a white supremacist organization after reading a couple of articles. I'm sure there's some more....perhaps not in the news yet.

Proud Boys and people of no professed affiliation.

Proud Boys are clearly nationalistic....even extremists...but I can't say white supremacist. Does the SPLC designate them that way?

However, people can be judged by the company they keep, especially in a demonstration. It is not as if they were just randomly strolling through town.

Ok....so they're white supremacist "by association"?

Yes we could. Anybody who favours the opposition is anti-government, but let us not stray from the point.

Perhaps 'a couple of articles' is not enough articles. I don't suggest you should read more; it would become depressing. But there is a thread in the American Politics forum which does it for you; it is thorough and I believe trustworthy, not compiled by partisan nodding donkeys as so much here is.

Ok....so they're white supremacist "by association"?

Yes, of course.
