Attorney General Merrick B. Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas told senators on Wednesday that the greatest domestic threat facing the United States came from what they both called “racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists.”
"Specifically those who advocate for the superiority of the white race," Mr. Garland told the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The cabinet secretaries’ comments reflected a dramatic shift in tone from the Trump administration, which deliberately downplayed the threat from white supremacists and similar groups, in part to elevate the profile of what former President Donald J. Trump described as violent threats from radical left-wing groups.

Looks like new management, new focus, no surprise there. It is interesting that the number of deaths and property damage associated with "white supremacists" demonstrations does not begin to compare with the deaths and property damage associated with "black identity extremist" demonstrations

FBI Director Christopher Wray said Thursday that white supremacy presents a “persistent” and "pervasive" threat to the United States, breaking from President Donald Trump, who has sidestepped questions of whether white nationalists present a growing problem.
"The danger. I think, of white supremacists, violent extremism or another kind of extremism is of course significant," Wray said at a House hearing. "We assess that it is a persistent, pervasive threat. We tackle it both through our joint terrorism task forces on the domestic terrorism side as well as through our civil rights program on the civil side through hate crime enforcement."
FBI Director Christopher A. Wray told lawmakers Tuesday that the bureau has recorded about 100 arrests of domestic terrorism suspects in the past nine months and that most investigations of that kind involve some form of white supremacy — though an FBI spokeswoman later clarified the percentage is smaller.
The figure, which Wray conceded was imprecise, is similar to the number of arrests made in international terrorism cases and represents an uptick compared with the prior year. He revealed the data at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, seeking to assure lawmakers that the bureau was aggressively pursuing cases of racially motivated violence.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security in May warned that white supremacist groups had already carried out more attacks than any other domestic extremist group over the past 16 years and were likely to carry out more attacks over the next year, according to an intelligence bulletin obtained by Foreign Policy.
Even as President Donald Trump continues to resist calling out white supremacists for violence, federal law enforcement has made clear that it sees these types of domestic extremists as a severe threat. The report, dated May 10, says the FBI and DHS believe that members of the white supremacist movement "likely will continue to pose a threat of lethal violence over the next year."

Of the 400 arrests after January 6th there were many who were affiliated to white supremicist organisations now being proscribed.

No, there were members of the Oath Keepers,
avowed Nazis and white nationalists,
Proud Boys and people of no professed affiliation.
However, people can be judged by the company they keep, especially in a demonstration. It is not as if they were just randomly strolling through town.
