Senior Biden adviser Brett McGurk is expected to travel to Egypt and Qatar this week for talks aimed at making progress in the negotiations to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and to discuss the war in Gaza, three sources with knowledge of the issue told Axios.

Why it matters: The trip is part of a renewed push by the Biden administration to get a hostage deal. U.S. officials acknowledge that reaching such an agreement might be the only path that could lead to a ceasefire in Gaza.

  • It's McGurk's second trip to the region this month to discuss the issue. He quietly visited Doha on Jan. 9.

They are keeping this quiet, which I'm unsure as to why because of the level of importance this work is. Or, maybe that's exactly why it's being kept more low key..

I think it's something we should keep an eye on, if anyone has anything to say here feel free, and if you find any quality articles adding more information please share.

Freeing the hostages is too important not to stay on top of... Hopefully the government can manage doing one good thing...

Hamas still has 6 American hostages. 2 have recently died in Hamas custody so we are down to 6 left.

Let's support government efforts to free all the hostages.

Hoping for their success in getting the hostages released and opening a dialogue that can lead to a ceasefire. We should always be leading efforts for diplomacy over more war and conflict.
