To atheists...

Hey,
I am just curious as to what the beliefs of any atheists out there are in regard to creation; how humans and their surroundings came to be created. I am going to try not to respond to any suggestions; I am just curious as to what the different theories are between atheists. Personally I believe in what the Bible says but I'd like to hear what others believe. It doesn't have to be long-winded - i just stated my belief in one sentence - but feel free to explain what and why in detail if you are so inclined.

man got here through Evolution of life.
Life got here possibly through abiogenesis.
the universe got here through the big bang.
What caused the big bang? I dont know, there are a few competeing hypothesis.

Arikay sums it up for me too except I'd change the second point to "Life got here probably through abiogenesis", ie a bit more definite than "possibly".

Oh and I disagree with Jet Black's belief. I personally believe in the right to free beer for anyone born in 1967.

Basically, I do not have any positive beliefs in regard to how "...humans and their surroundings came to be created." - because I do not believe humans nor their surrundings were created.

But I second the "free beer" hypotheis - as long it is German beer.

I got loads of free beer on sunday. It was Budweiser, which i don't normally drink, but seeing as it was free......

I believe the same thing as most christians when it comes on how life came to earth (apart from abiogenesis vs creation of cells which some christians think is right). And like most christians am I also believing in something akin to the big bang (but I don't know if/which god(s) set it off).

Change the second one to "Life got here through chemistry."

Edwards "Apart from before the big bang I assume natural laws are the cause of our present universe." is telling. Notice the hidden statement of faith in this sentence: that "natural laws" operate without deity.

That's the essential belief of atheism. And an essential difference between atheistic evolution and theistic evolution. TEs believe that an intelligent entity is necessary for those "natural laws" to function.

So, both theistic (Christian) evolutionists and atheists accept the material processes discovered by science. The difference is that atheists believe those material processes -- natural laws -- operate on their own while Christians believe that God is necessary for them to work.

I don't have any beliefs. As to why the universe exists, I don't know. As to how life started on earth, I don't know, but I suspect chemistry. As to how humans came about, we evolved.

Everyone has beliefs. You believe some movies or music are pleasant and other movies or music are not, for instance.

You may be agnostic about the particular question being discussed, but you do have beliefs.

I wouldn't call that a belief, but a matter of subjective taste. But just for you I'll rephrase it: I don't have any beliefs about objective facts.
