  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There was a thread a while back regarding tinnitus and I wanted to share this but I could not find it. Maybe of interest for those suffering from or with tinnitus.

In Search of a Tinnitus Cure — Dr. Josef Rauschecker

Hi Bob!

You might be interested in this: the tinnitus forum I mentioned back in the previous thread finished a podcast with Dr. Rauschecker! By the grace of God and the hard work people are putting in, great strides are being made :)

That brings hope for many sufferers. Mine is pretty constant although at times it's almost completely gone. At those times I am so grateful. Today my right ear is ringing pretty loudly.

Mine is constant and loud. Had it for many years (not ears!)

One therapy is to expose yourself to a matching sound. The more you control and use the matching tone, the less annoying it is when you don't.

It may not be in the ears. I heard of somebody who had it so bad, they had an eardrum removed but still has tinnitus.
Most tinnitus originates in the cochlea. As the hair like cells vibrate, they send signals to the brain which are interpreted as sound. As these hairs are damaged by loud noise, they send constant signals. Many times these signals are in the high frequency range which sounds like ringing.

It is definitely NOT in the ears, it is in the nerves. Some claim it is actually generated in the brain itself.

They can do nothing since there is no consensus as to what it actually is.
They can't stop that noises but they can help people deal with it. I have heard that stem cell research has had some success with regrowing the hair like cells but that is still a work in progress.

IDK when the podcast was made but I heard just this year (brain science research) that tinnitus has been determined to be a neurological issue not an inner ear issue. I am working on mine (received during a head/body trauma) with epigenetics. I determined on my own that the nerve endings or the nerves themselves are damaged and possibly need myelin to help repair? I am instructing my brain to heal this..to create and send the chemicals i need. It's only the 2nd week...and I surmise it may take awhile as nerves heal very very slowly and I haven't done anything for them in years.

Yes, maskers work. I had maskers 15 years ago but they broke and the insurance company won't even address new ones. A good ENT will give a thorough hearing test and find the exact tones you are hearing in each ear, then make a masker for each individual ear to match the tone and in essence cancel it out. IT WAS WONDERFUL to not "hear" the tones/tinnitus.

I'm having 'final' dental work done this week and once the jaw is back in place I also suspect the tinnitus will lessen.

BUT I'm having faith of healing.(Can I say that here?)

fortunately mine is drowned out by other noises. So I mostly hear it when trying to go to sleep but it doesn't prevent me from falling asleep. If yours is like mine try keeping noise around you like tv or radio, etc. My biggest problem is often I mistake the noise for running water in the house pipes and that causes concern til I find out differently.

I don't get it badly. If I'm tired, or stressed, I may get a bit. It's not strong enough to stop me sleeping.

I remember one incident though. I was knocked unconscious by a hockey ball when I was playing hockey (many years ago). It split my upper lip right through, needing a few stitches, and I was wobbly on my feet for about two weeks from concussion.

But that night I had a resounding case of tinnitus. It was so loud that it was like trying to get to sleep with a 747 taking off from the neighbour's driveway. Literally.

It was maddening to say the least. Then at some point, the noise ceased. One minute it was there in all it's ear splitting rock band glory. Then it just disappeared, leaving the Sounds of Silence. Beautiful!

Exactly what caused it I don't know, but it was very, very irritating while it lasted.

So for those who continuously suffer tinnitus, I hope Dr. Rauschecker can find a cure.

The constant pink noise hiss is very annoying and I have no idea how to mix and master a multi track recording with that.

It would be interesting to know how many sufferers of this disease have some kind of head injury. Like brain surgery, head surgery of some kind, ear surgery. nose surgery? I had minor brain surgery and wonder if this could lead to tinnitus as some of my skull is gone and I wondered if that might cause sounds to be magnified? There might be something to that thought.

Ringing ears is also a sign of high blood pressure.
