I don't get it badly. If I'm tired, or stressed, I may get a bit. It's not strong enough to stop me sleeping.
I remember one incident though. I was knocked unconscious by a hockey ball when I was playing hockey (many years ago). It split my upper lip right through, needing a few stitches, and I was wobbly on my feet for about two weeks from concussion.
But that night I had a resounding case of tinnitus. It was so loud that it was like trying to get to sleep with a 747 taking off from the neighbour's driveway. Literally.
It was maddening to say the least. Then at some point, the noise ceased. One minute it was there in all it's ear splitting rock band glory. Then it just disappeared, leaving the Sounds of Silence. Beautiful!
Exactly what caused it I don't know, but it was very, very irritating while it lasted.
So for those who continuously suffer tinnitus, I hope Dr. Rauschecker can find a cure.
