Over 7,000 left without power after three Pierce County substation facilities attacked

Pierce County Sheriff's deputies responded to a burglary call at the Tacoma Public Utilities substation at 22312 46th Avenue E just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Although nothing was stolen, someone vandalized and damaged equipment inside, which caused a power outage in the area.

Deputies were then notified of a second burglary call at a substation at 8820 224th Street E, also with nothing stolen and damage to equipment.

A third incident was reported later in the morning by Puget Sound Energy.

Duo attacked Wash. power stations to burglarize local business, feds say

Investigators say Matthew Greenwood, 32, and Jeremy Crahan, 40, attacked the substations, then broke into a Pierce County business [when the power was off]

On New Year’s Eve, officials neared a possible answer when they arrested two suspects and charged them with conspiracy to damage energy facilities. A criminal complaint filed Tuesday revealed what investigators believe to be their motive: facilitating a burglary at a local business.
Matthew Greenwood, 32, allegedly told investigators upon arrest that he and Jeremy Crahan, 40, attacked the power stations and then broke into a local business and stole from the cash register, according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, damage at two of the substations will take up to 36 months to repair and has forced Tacoma Power to use mobile transformers to maintain power in the meantime at a greatly reduced output.

Investigators identified Greenwood and Crahan through surveillance footage at the substations and cellphone records, according to the complaint. Investigators found two phone numbers whose registered devices were around all four substations at the times of the attacks. They allegedly were linked to Google accounts in Greenwood and Crahan’s names.

Did you happen to read the article. These attacks were not carried out by any Neo-Nazis white supremacists or boogaloo boys. Just some criminals want to burglarize some places.

While we all can't stand these groups, thier whole idea is totally ridiculous. So they really think by taking down some power they are going to sew chaos and create a white ethno-state? Just shows how stupid these guys are.

They can create problems for sure, but they are certainly not big enough to create the chaos they want. Anyway this one wasn't on them.
