America is unique because it's diverse. There's nothing negative about that. It's what makes America so incredible.
Hmm ...

I would argue that America's freedom for people to be diverse and to pursue their individual happiness is a more accurate characterization.

I don't think that's much different than what I said. I was referring just to the topic at hand.

America is not so much unique because it is diverse, but it is diverse because it is unique. It is uniquely free and accommodating to people everywhere and anywhere for whom freedom is a primary value. Freedom is the precondition to the diversity.

America's diversity is certainly a wonderful thing. When the diversity is done in opposition to the law then it harms our country.

It couldn't be more simple: those who are hear legally are a valuable addition to our country. Those who come illegally have not only broken the law but have shown contempt for our laws and our way of life.

Or both. We are a nation of immigrants on a massive scale, which makes us unique, and that uniqueness has lead to even more diversity during the course of our history.

In what way is America more accommodating than Canada?

Saying that they've shown contempt for our way of live is a pretty absurd overstatement. If anything, they appreciate our way of life and want to participate in it.

Well, this is the same guy who introduced us to the enlightening term orthosexuality.

The USA is unique in more than that. We have our own culture. It's a truism that we are united not by race or such, but by our ideals and culture.

You sum it up rather well. It's important to note that all division comes from diversity, so diversity is not always good. It's antithetical to unity. So, some things are good to have variety, but it's not always good.

Your example of respect for our law and way of life. That is something we need to be unified on. We should all, every one of us, insist that people respect the law in coming here, and respect our sovereignty. This delusion that it's OK to commit an abuse and then demand accomodation should get people thrown out the door onto their butts.

Yeah, that's the typical bigoted, oikophobic assessment of things. Dismissing the notion that American culture might have anything unique to offer the world is oikophobic, not to mention extremely arrogant. The notion that we're just bits and pieces of other nations is also ignorant bigotry. Ignorantly claiming that non-oiks are somehow living in a cloister shell is also typical. BTW, nice job putting quotes around 'native'. "I'm not oikophobic, because I can't be bigoted against something I refuse to acknowledge exists!". Heard it all before. Next...

Mexico is not south of the United States? I have seen the southern border. It is real.

17 million and counting will give that notion a wink.

Canada has a southern border. America has a southern 'border'

Correct

Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegals, Obama has not.

Yes I am correct. Reagan gave amnesty through legislation. Obama wants to give it with Executive Order. But Democrats are unwilling to compromise with how to grant amnesty. All Republicans want to is to make sure things are done according to the law. Allowing people to flood our boarders with no means to make them tax paying citizens is not a viable way to maintain our immigration system.

Believe me, I am all for immigration reform. But that reform should not be as simple as ignoring our laws and letting people run around. Reform should be legislation based on Reagan's principles. Reform should be law, not turning a blind eye. Obama has no ideas for reform. He isn't thinking about the future of this country. He is only thinking about the future of the Democratic party come November.

“These are not children,” Kuhner added, Boston.com reported. “When you say child, the implication is 4, 5, 6 [years old]. They’re teenagers – many of them are gangbangers … If you’re 15, you’re not a child. A child is 12 and under.”

Yes, go ahead an demonize the least of these.

Good for them!! It is about time people take the blinders off ans wake up and buying into to the lies/disinformation spoon feed to them by the radical La Raza open borders lobby which distorts facts and the truth in order to promote their ethnic agenda, liberals and other pro-illegal immigrant lobbies.

Why do we think we owe these people anything, particular when many of them come here to exploit and leach off of generosity of others or to conduct their criminal enterprises.

Let take a look at what this is costing upright/ honest/ honorable US born and raised citizens..

Illegal alien migration into the United States costs honest, hardworking American, taxpayers $346 billion annually reported by the National Research Council. While employers of illegal aliens rake-in billions of dollars, the US citizens subsidize what may be called organized "Slavery in 21st Century America." While Congress facilitates outsourcing, insourcing and offshoring of American jobs by the thousands weekly, that same Congress imports 182,000 legal immigrant monthly who need jobs. Another estimated 100,000 illegal aliens arrive each month without jobs. All those immigrants seize jobs from American citizens at slave wages. What happens to the American taxpayer? "Immigrants a pay less tax, and are more likely to receive public benefits than American citizens," said Edwin Rubenstein, reporting on the National Research Council's new book: "The New Americans: Economic, Demographics and Fiscal Effects of Immigration." The NRC found that the average immigrant household receives $13,326 in federal welfare and pays $10,664.00 in federal taxes. Thus, American taxpayers shell out $2,682.00 for each immigrant household. In addition, the report showed that immigrants affect 15 different executive agencies of the U.S. government. Earned Income Tax Credit-fraud is rampant and IRS does little to verify existence of children. Clean Air and Climate Change-these goals are unattainable as long as US population grows-driven by unending immigration. Emergency medical treatment-US taxpayer money provides $250 million a year to help hospitals defray costs for illegal aliens. Bureau of Land Management-the Interior Department spends $1 million to mitigate environmental damage done by illegals crossing US southern border. Migrant educational grants-intended to help states educate children of illegal workers. More fraud from over-counting. Office of Foreign Labor Certification-immigrant workers depress wages for US citizens resulting in declines in federal revenues at $100 billion annually. As shown on CBS with Katie Couric this past week, 300,000 pregnant Mexican women cross the border to birth their babies, known as 'anchor babies', in American hospitals at an average cost of $6,000.00 per birth with no complications. If the child suffers heart defects, Downs Syndrome, Autism or any other problems, the costs jump to $500,000.00 with long term care into the millions of dollars. All footed by the America taxpayer! Not mentioned in Couric's report, that child enjoys free breakfasts and lunches through 13 years of publicly funded education at an average cost of $7,000.00 per year. Additionally, American taxpayers foot the bill for all medical and housing assistance for the child and mother. More hidden costs add up with ESL classes to teach the child English. Connecticut alone suffers 120 languages in their schools while Colorado suffers over 40 foreign languages that cripple their classrooms. The list of expenses paid for by American taxpayer soars with time and numbers of illegal aliens. Additionally, legal immigrants sponsor their relatives in chain migration and family reunification at US taxpayer expense. These immigrants take American jobs while they burn American taxpayer funds for immigrant welfare. This all happens while the US national debt approaches $10 trillion. Immigrants flood into this country while jobs cascade out to China where we owe $1 trillion in T-bills as of 2008. Additionally, we suffer a $700 billion annual trade deficit. Once those illegal aliens hit this country, half of them work off the books and do not pay $401 billion dollars annually according to the 2005 Bear Stearns Report. Additionally, they form the second largest underground economy in the world. Both legal and illegal immigrants send $80 billion back to their home countries in cash transfers on untaxed money. When does it end? Not any time soon! Who pays? You do! Like the proverbial golden calf, the United States taxpayer bleeds to death daily while our president and Congress fiddle, faddle and scratch their generous rear ends while they facilitate the death of America's middle class.

Additional facts to consider...

Mexico is NOT a poor country. By sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico's corruption? ( or other countries ?)

Illegal aliens are NOT necessarily coming here to work. 33 percent of our prison population is now comprised of non-citizens. Plus, 36 to 42 percent of illegal aliens are on welfare. So, for a good proportion of these people, the American dream is crime and welfare, not coming here to work.

Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers.

Illegal aliens absolutely do not contribute more than they cost. Certainly the millions in prison and on welfare aren't contributing a dime to our economy, and the ones who are working often are paid in cash with no deductions for taxes at all. The ones who use fraudulent social security numbers and qualify to pay taxes and social security have so many deductions for dependents that they pay little if any taxes. Some of them pay less than $100 in taxes and get back $4,000 refunds (thanks to earned income tax credits and multiple dependents). Some bargain, eh?

The economy does NOT depend on illegal aliens. Sure, greedy CEOs (making $50 to $150 MILLION a year) and business owners depend on illegal aliens, but due to the above, the only thing illegal aliens are contributing to is the collapse of our economy and making the rich richer.

Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), using minimum wage workers instead of illegal aliens would increase prices of agricultural products by approximately 3 percent in the summer and 4 percent in the winter ... hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.

Consumers are NOT benefiting from lower labor costs. Again, it's CEOs and business owners who benefit from taxpayer subsidies for their illegal alien workers. The Big Three automakers say they moved so many jobs to Mexico because their labor costs are 80 percent less than in America. Anybody notice the price of new cars spiraling downward under NAFTA?

$$$$$ billions are spent on illegal immigrant assistance programs. Money that should be being spent on US Veterans, The millions of homeless US citizens, Our beleaguered public education system. Etc., etc., etc.
But it is going to people that don't respect the US nor it's laws.

Just as a closing statement, I think that if we ( the U.S.) have such excess and abundance..., should a country's priority not the needs of its own honest, upright, hardworking natural-born citizens over the needs of people coming into to the county through deceptive or other wise manipulative tactics thus illegal therefore illegal immigrants(most of them) who want nothing more than to leach off of the flawed and easily exploited social programs. Why do we (us citizens) owe anyone else in the world anything?! Particularly when they do not want to contribute to a society. Some say that this is not a christian attitude. Really?! we are suppose to continue be suckers and continue to let them leech off of us. It's no wonder why countries laugh at the US in regards to immigration policies and overall.

The vast majority of those supporting immigration reform do not support open borders.

Ask yourself how those criminal enterprises [Cartels] are funded.

Many of the northern states have supported this because they have no idea what it's like. Now that it's starting to affect them maybe they'll see what those of us in the south have dealt with for decades.

Thunder Peel, you are right. It is easier to support something one is quite distant from, to begin with. It seems so humane, yet many of the illegal immigrants, if not most, are likely to commit a variety of other offenses, besides their initial act of trespassing through the border.
