Revelation confounds me oftentimes, naturally. It stirs certain fears and uncertainties within me. But after reading it just now, Psalms 130 seemed like just the blessing and assurance that I needed. The Lord is indeed to be praised ->

4 For there is forgiveness with You,
that You may be feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, with bated breath I wait;
I long for His Word!
6 My soul waits for the Lord,

Psalm 23! Did you memorize that growing up?

Not at all. Until the day I came to Christ ... or rather, He came to me ... at 16 years old, any attempt at reading Scripture just caused my eyes to glaze, so the healing words of excerpts from the Bible such as Psalm 23 certainly never touched my mind. Although, I recall a nameplate I was once given by my parents when I was little, from one of those roadside giftshop type places, where the first part of Psalm 23 "The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want" were inscribed beneath my middle name, Bradley, since apparently that name means "abundant provider".

My first and real name, of course, is Will, however.

Still, that psalm certainly means more to me now than back then.

DAY 351

Isaiah 17 through 21
Revelation 8
The church I grew up in went astray early on, but one of the things they did before they went astray was had us learn Psalm 23. It’s a Psalm people are encouraged to learn by heart.

I like how you say Christ came to you! That’s how it works!

Were your parents religious? Mine were very ‘believe what you want to believe’

“I shall not want”………..”abundant provider”……….they picked name due to that connection, maybe?

If it's all right I'd rather not talk about that. There were bright spots here and there but overall my sister's and my relationship to our parents were strained most of the first sixteen years or so of my life, and while they were married my parents were often against each other as well due in part to religion, I will just say that much.

I was never sure about that, especially since shortly after I became a believer I began to strongly desire to be called by my first - and therefore real as far as I am concerned - name Will, instead, which of course has a different meaning. I guess I just didn't see how either being an "abundant provider" or looking towards the Lord as my shepherd Who would give me everything I truly need (therefore "I shall not want") described me at all during my first 16 to 17 years of life.

Honestly perhaps I should start doing so now, then. It's been almost 24 years since I came to be a believer, after all, so I no longer have the excuse of being a newbie at this whole Christianity thing to not remember such a commonly known excerpt of Scripture. :)
