I like tea. I normally drink about 8-10 cups a day. I had to give up coffee a little over a year ago, so I switched to tea. I usually just drink the cheap stuff but have found differences even in that. I always put honey in it and as soon as I can remember I want to get some cinnamin to add.
I love hot tea as well! :D

How did you find out you were allergic to nickel? What were the symptoms?

It started with me the way it starts with most people...infected pierced ears.

I have to be very careful with what I wear next to my skin (jewelry, belt buckles, glasses, etc...). What happens is I break out in welts and it's very itchy and painful. Things that are marked hypoallergenic are not nickel free as I've discovered! I need to have things specifically labeled as nickel-free.

I've even had a watch that had only one tiny piece of metal on the band that had nickel in it that caused a welt...one tiny piece. Sometimes I put clear nail polish over certain things to help protect my skin, but it wears through fast.

By Da Rev:

My memory is notoriously unreliable. Still, I'm going to take a chance here. There was a resercher at, I think, Johns Hopkins (sp) University who did the study you have mentioned, Revrand. He set out to prove that Homosexual men were different from other men. The intention was to prove that Homosexuality was a condition that exsisted from birth. Well, he did so. The problem was that during the study, he found that the condition could be reversed permanantly!! He found that Homosexuality was caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that was easily corrected. This Homosexual resercher actually proved what he had been told for years; that he was abnormal and needed to be treated for that abnormality. I was actually given copies of this paper some years ago and have long since disposed of them.

So because you have disposed of this report, it has now become hearsay at least as far as this forum is concerned. We have no way of determining whether the study was objective or subjective.

We need objectivity in the study. However, I doubt you will ever truly find a study of this nature that is not subjective to some degree. Since you no longer have this paper, it is difficult to be polemical or corraborative with its findings.

I have every symptom you have described here. I can only wear plastic rimmed glasses, even I titanium ones I'm allergic to.

I didn't know I had to watch out for certain foods! Wow, good info.

Tea has nickel in it? I didn't know this. I'm not bothered by nickel though, so it isn't a problem for me. That's, I suppose, a good thing, as if the bled me it would come out Tetley positive.:D

I've come to the conclusion that soy is my enemy. For the last few years, I've experianced some really scary and painful effects from what I now know to be food allergies. Not knowing what they were, I chalked it up to food or possibly chemical (cleaning fluids on food preparation areas) poisioning. Turns out it was neither. It's soy. I've been working to take it out of my diet. The stuff is in everything. Sheesh! Oh well, the stuff makes a good replacement for diesel fuel at least...

Jim, your comment is interesting. I will research the article and see if another copy is available. My intention was the opposite of what you stated though. The point I was trying to make (and the researcher was trying to avoid) was that this condition (homosexuality) is not natural. How does this make the Lord the fall guy? I also tend to agree with the comment the Revrand made about how the majority of these people being where they are by choice.

Luther, forgive me, I'm an uneducated man. I'm still trying to puzzle out just what you were trying to say. One thing I did catch though had to do with the subjectivity of the report. Yes, of course it was subjective. The man had an agenda, and proved the opposite of what he set out to do. I suppose a link to this study would be helpful. Like I said, I'll research it and try to find it again. The internet could be helpful there.

There are even certain kinds of makeup that bother me (basically the glittery kind). It isn't fun to buy a new lip gloss and have your lips begin to itch immediately after applying it...ugh.
me too, and glittery eyeshadow! Conservative AND the same allergies...what else might we have in common! ;) :swoon:

Yes, according to some medical website I went to. It's not on all the websites though. BTW, soy bothers me too but you're right, it's in so many things!

I'm only allergic to mold, so I can and do eat and drink just about anything and everything and I am having to log the treadmill miles to prove it! :help:

English teas and green tea are becoming more common in my morning routine than coffee as it is easier to brew up now that I know how and I actually prefer the taste some days. It took an Englishman to teach me how to make proper tea, but finding it here is tricky.

An allergy to nickle only means that nothing but pure gold or platinum should touch your skin. Tell your husbands it's medically mandatory. :D

LOL He's actually pretty safe though since I don't wear much jewelry. I worry more about my precious FOOD LOL I'm trying to work off Christmas eating still...doing 10 miles a day on the exercise bike and it's slowly coming off.

OK. You peddle and I'll walk since we're doing about the same mileage. I hope to up that to 15 miles/week by the end of March.

I have found that not eating past 6:00 or 7:00 makes a difference as well. I've dropped at least 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks and I'm sleeping better on a less full stomach.

I gave up pop, so that has helped a lot. I replaced it with those flavored water pouches...taste like juice but have some sucralose chemical in it. They probably aren't good for me though!

Plus, giving up chocolate has helped as well. I miss it though :(

Tea is on my list of things to avoid now. I have an allergy to nickel. Even my eyeglasses have to be nickel free!! Well, I found a list of foods that are high in nickel and you know what? Those are the same foods I've slowly been eliminating from my diet over the past few years because I've discovered they bother me badly! Weird. Chocolate (WAH!), nuts, raisins, beans, oats, tea....and more...these are foods that are high in nickel. I can't eliminate all nickel from my diet as even water contains nickel.

Jim, why did you have to stop drinking coffee? Did it bother your stomach or something? There is a new folgers that is gentle on the stomach :)

Hmm, I never knew I was eating a high nickel diet :) Sorry to hear that you have this, I'm sure it must be a pain, but at least you can live around it.

I had to give up most coffee drinking because I am a chronic imsomniac. I've come a long ways but still have problems on average 1-2 days a week. Before I would go up to 4 days without sleep. I got so dragged out a couple of years ago that I couldn't talk anymore, of course my wife enjoyed that ;) As soon as I quit drinking coffee I started sleeping again. Now the main thing that bothers me is if I stay up to late and get over tired, I won't sleep at all on those nights and it may take me a few days to get back into full sleep again.

Now, aren't you sorry you asked? :D

Hmm, guess I need to clean my glasses again. I thought that this professer thought he had proved that people were born this way. This must also be why Rev questioned me.

Well, some days my poor old mind doesn't work clearly, please forgive my misunderstanding.
