That doesn't happen... does it? ;)

Seriously... the problem with first calls out of seminary is that it's tough to minister to a congregation that didn't call you. My church didn't call me, they called a seminary candidate. There was no input from the congregation as to what their ministerial needs were, what approach to ministry the pastor takes, etc. It's a crap shoot and you take what you get. It rarely is a situation that can exist long term.

That explains a lot! Hang in there, Rev. Surely God has your talents in His sights and will make use of them sooner than later. Maybe in a warmer climate....;)

Our situation was good for all when the pastor who now heads the Spanish here first came to our church here. Had he not, he said he might not have lasted to do what he truly desired, which was to start the Spanish-speaking church. Apparently, the challenges with that would have been overwhelming and insurmountable had he gone straight into such an endeavor right out of seminary.

In our church, we have two kinds of palms -- one is the long strips of palm fronds, and the other is the strips that have been formed into the shape of a cross. The children get the long ones to wave during the processional. The adults get the cross-shaped ones, to take home for the year.

We start outside the church, where Pastor does the first readings. Then he knocks on the church door, "the gate of Jerusalem"(and loudly, so the organist can hear him and start the music). Then we enter the church, singing and waving our palms.

It's an interesting way to "act out" the triumphal entry.
