I'm not sure what a cord of wood goes for now. We have an insert in our fireplace, hubby just cuts a tree down or if one falls he'll cut it up when we need it.
Depends on what kind of wood it is. Here, it's anywhere from $100 to $175, or it was last winter.

Straw or hay? Round or square bale?

Regular three string bale. About 100-125 lbs.

Here it's $175 for fir/pine and around two hundred for oak. More in winter. Of course, George and I have forty acres of both for free!;)

Ugh thats a lot for a square bale of hay but the price did go up this year around here.

My boy called tonight and the 500 acres that they are allowed to live on is going to be populated with like minded "end times" families. They are going to learn to live "off the grid" and be self-suffecient. Gee it's scary how kids grow up to be like their parents. I lived my whole life wanting to live like that but I was too lazy to realize that dream even though I do live somewhat like that now with a woodstove and oil lamps for electric outages, well water and using batteries and an inverter for emergencys. Got a generator but it's on the fritz right now.

I once knew someone who bought some Columbian hay. He's now doing 8 to 10 for possession.
^_^ ^_^ ^_^

LOL! I love it! He should have taken up residence here in the land of the nutzies (California)! Growing good Colombian is legal as long as it's for medicinal use!;)

Frankly, I think we should legalize the stuff (Mary-ja-wanna that is)! I've been around pot-heads all my life and never had a problem with them. Now alkies, smokers (the rude ones), and druggies (we're talking the perscription-type, legals), have always been a problem. Of course, legalization will never happen. You see, the government doesn't want to legalize something that one can grow in the backyard and they can't tax!;)

The US could probly balance the budget if they legalized it and taxed it! Just saying.....

Same deal in Ontario, Canada. With a Dr's. Script, you can have two plants.

A few farmers have tried growing commercial hemp. It is one S.O.B. to bale, :mad:winds around everything worse than flax.

Well... California is the 'Golden State'.;)

Bloomer, have you ever cooked on a wood burning stove? If not, let me give you a hint; they're very hungry. One must constantly feed them firewood. Still, it is fun once in a while. By the by, that's where the phrase "she can't even boil water," comes from. It insinuated that someone couldn't keep the proper heat up on the stove. IE: they didn't feed the stove fast enough or correctly.
Nope, Grandma wouldn't let us touch that stove. But she sure cooked a lot of food on it. Nothing fancy, just plain farm food, big on her own farm-raised chickens and home grown vegetables.

Years ago, I remember seeing a professional wrestler on TV (I wandered through a room where someone else was watching). He was supposed to be a hillbilly type, and he was showing how he trained. First he had to warm up the kitchen. I laughed my head off when he walked up to a cookstove exactly like Grandma's and threw the firewood into the oven! No real country boy would have made that mistake.

You know, I honestly think that good plain food is the best stuff on earth.

Give me good down home country cooking and I'm a happy girl.

Ya know Kay, it's a good thing you're so much younger and spoken for. Otherwise, I just might be tempted to make a fool of myself. Oops, too late! Already did that several times today. I meant in referrence to... Oh, never mind.:o :sorry:

Yeah, I like simple home cooking too. So much so that it's something I do a lot of. I mean, if one's single and likes that kind of thing, gotta do it myself or do without.;) I used to have a Copperclad wood stove. During the winter I'd cook on it out on the porch. Had to use the porch as my LandLord would'nt let me put it in the kitchen. Sadly, had to sell it to make ends meet late last year. Still have the parlour stove though. Now it keeps George's shop nice and toasty.

LOL!:D :D :D What a Dope! The only thing that would have improved on that stupidity would have been his trying to light a fire! Oh, my (LOL)!:D :D
