George and I fixed the pump problem at the spring house today. We now have water flowing to the house for the first time in over two months! You have no idea how nice it was to flush the toilet without a bucket.:o Did the dishes in the sink for the first time in... I don't know how long. Oi.. vay.

Now, if it would just start raining as it should, and we can be sure of water this summer. Elsewise...:swoon:

Great news Kae. Congratulations!

Stude I don't know how you can afford to live in that area. My son and his girlfriend had to move from the Eugene Or area becasue everything is geting out of reach. Rent, realestate, commodities, gas, everything. They moved down to Texas and he's going to work on a ranch and shes an RN so she can find a job just about anywhere.

Ctay, with hay at twenty-five dollars a bale and grain at a consumerate price, it's just as expensive as driving a car (in California that is...). Besides, the way people drive around here, riding or driving a horse on the road is taking your life in your hands.

Rad, you're entirely right. That's why I was trying so diligently to move out of this state. Every time I tried to though, everything went straight to... um... heck... in a handbasket. It seems to be the Lord's desire for me to remain here. For the moment anyway...

Are you ready for this? It's been snowing all day here! The weather has been in the upper sixties and lower seventies for over a month and now it's snowing! Go figure! Sadly, there isn't enough to matter a... darn. We really need the water. It doesn't matter what form it takes...:help:

$25 a bale?????? Must have gold in it. We payed $3.75 a bale.
When I was a teen, I earned money cutting, raking, baling, and hauling hay bales and made a penny/bale!

Cutting oak trees down, into 10 ft lengths, sawing into 15 inch length pieces, stacking, drying, splitting, hauling, and putting it in the person's shed I made $10/cord.

Ah yes, the good old days!!

I remember how my grandparents lived when they were still on the farm. No running water, no indoor plumbing, wood burning stove in the kitchen. I remember the wood burning stove for heat before they converted to oil. They did have electricity and a phone. When they moved to town when I was a teenager, Grandma had to learn to cook all over again. They always had hot water--huge kettle on the back of the cook stove was always kept full.

Well... California is the 'Golden State'.;)

Bloomer, have you ever cooked on a wood burning stove? If not, let me give you a hint; they're very hungry. One must constantly feed them firewood. Still, it is fun once in a while. By the by, that's where the phrase "she can't even boil water," comes from. It insinuated that someone couldn't keep the proper heat up on the stove. IE: they didn't feed the stove fast enough or correctly.

We have a wood burning stove and we can heat our family room up to about 90 degrees!! But then again, we have a really good stove and we have blowers to move the heat into the room.

I've used it to cook only a couple things, but you can't control the temperature. It takes a while to get a good roaring fire going in a stove...you need to go slow with it really and build up. I've gotten to be a pro at ours!
