The Rev. Gerald Kieschnick, the synod's current president, has pushed church
marketing over the Lutherans' historic confession of faith by repeatedly
telling the laity, "This is not your grandfather' s church."
Mr. Kruta explained that Missouri
Synod members should have drawn the line sooner about how much deviation
they would tolerate in the church. "Seriously, this has been like waking up
in the hospital after surgery only to find that the wrong limb has been
amputated and no one will admit who the surgeon was," he said.
As synod bureaucrats support congregations that hide their Lutheran identity
while terminating the strong witness of "Issues, Etc.," members of the
denomination are asking if they can have their grandfather' s church back...
Too much, too little, too late. As I said in another forum Lutherans are very forgiving and in a year everything will be forgotten. Big K will be elected (inaugerated--like a monarchy) again because he knows how to say (evade) all the right thingsHere's some quotes from Reclaim News that I got a laugh out of (emphasis [bolding] mine):![]()
Hmmm...speaking of that...I wonder if we could get Glenn Beck to do a segment on his show...that would raise some eyebrows I'm sure.
Happy birthday Porterross if I don't remember to tell you tomorrow
Is it wise to bring in a Mormon on this? You know, a while back I received an oversized post card in the mail from one of the "we serve coffee and donuts during the sermon...it's SOCIAL HOUR!" churches around here.
The first thing it said was:
"THIS IS NOT YOUR GRANDMA'S CHURCH"
And boy was I offended. I even called up and left a message for them to PLEASE take me off their mailing list because I was highly offended that they'd think MY church, my lovely, God fearing, Gospel preaching, Lord Honoring church could be...*gasp* boring. How can you be bored when you're praising God? Isn't it about Him instead of about us?
I never received an answer back. I still get their mailings as well.
So to have the President of the LCMS come out and say "this is not your Grandfather's church" ... well that just makes my blood boil and makes blood want to shoot out of my eyes.

It's OK with me and many of those protesting loudly aren't Lutheran. They know the truth when they hear it.I don't know why not. He wouldn't be condoning his religion, rather he'd be taking a conservative stand and getting the issue out in the public.
I'll tell ya, not being a WSJ reader, if I hadn't been on this board, I wouldn't have known anything about any of this. If someone can get the word out to the LCMS about what really is going on...shouldn't that be okay?

I understand reaching out to young people, but do churches have to kick the seasoned citizens to the curb in order to do it! Not good....
Actually, the young people prefer a more orthodox liturgy. My daughter's friends still talk about DaRev's manner of conducting the service he did here and they loved it, especially the chanting.![]()
I think this is just something certain people in the synod have bought into. They must think that it works for the mega non-denoms, so why not?![]()
Can you tell me why in the world the northern edge of the Metroplex (fast growing and upper middle class), where there are more than a dozen LCMS congregations within 30 miles qualifies as a mission area? Talk about your blatant abuse of a directive.![]()
The thing that's interesting is that some of the mega-churches, Willow Creek comes to mind, have admitted that their mode of operation is not as effective as they had first thought. The SBC made that determination some time ago because their young folks were leaving for more traditional churches.
Birthday was nice and quiet. I slept in and then cleaned house and cooked my favorite enchiladas.AMEN!
And how's your birthday going? Are you where it's flooding in TX? Keeping safe 'n dry?
