Finally home after nine days of vacation (two days of driving to get back). Don't know how Hunter drives that long. I get weary and eye-tired after an hour. Anyway, the trip up to Holland, Michigan was very nice, and the weather was amazing.

We went to an LCMS service last Sunday morning (we had looked the city up on the web, and they had two LCMS churches to choose from). The one we went to had a contemporary and a liturgical service. If the one we attended was the "liturgical" service, I'm really glad we didn't go to the contemporary one. *laughs* But other than that, it was fine. I think next year we'll try the other one and see how it is.

Then we went to pick up my 85 year old dad from his retirement high-rise (assisted living place). We were almost out the driveway when he said his face felt numb... and his hand.. so we turned around and brought him back. They have nurses on staff. She checked him over and the numbness went away, but they suggested he go to hospital to be on the safe side. So we called an ambulance (since we have no idea where the hospital is in that city) and took him in. He was there for three days, but felt much better when he got out. Almost all the tests were very positive. But one showed spots on his lungs where he hadn't had any before. So there will be further tests this week. At least he got to spend the rest of the week with the family at the beach... he was really upset to think he was going to miss it, when it's the only time all year he sees some of us.

We stopped in Logan, Ohio overnight on our way home, and attended church there this morning. Much more to our liking in the liturgy, and a very solid sermon. The country around there is absolutely lovely!

It was so good to get home, though. I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own firm bed. Maybe I won't wake up with a backache for the first time in over a week.

Be careful what you drink. Or rather, how you drink.
Quote:
THIS happened recently in North Texas .
A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.

Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident !

WASH THEM!!!

And what about vending machines???? Ewww!

Ya know, Flip, after reading some of what you've been saying here, I'm afraid to eat or drink anything anymore.

 ^_^

We'll all gonna die anyway, right?

Thing is, caffeine does help headaches. If I have a headache in the afternoon, I'll grab a diet Mt. Dew before the pills (office supplies both), and it works. I can't cut it out completely either. I do thank God for not letting me like coffee, though. If I liked coffee, I'd be in trouble.

It's all about moderation, and making sure you drink enough water every day.

Glad to have you back. Sounds like your trip was good for the most part. I take it this was a kind of family reunion?

Prayers for your father as they figure out these spots on the lung. Hope you slep well last night.

Flipper and DaRev,
I agree with the moderation bit. Seems like each food item contributes to some disease.

I am on another group and a woman posted what you should eat to avoid cancer, the thing is, many of things "allowed" cause other problems. It's almost like "pick your disease" with some of these preventative diets.

The things is, one can do everything "right" and still have the problem which tells me that what we eat is not the whole story. This brings us back to moderation.

Now, I have to cut down my coke/caffiene, cut it in half (that would make one 12 oz. can a day). May if I keep repeating this to myself, I will succeed?!

Any news on this, Flipper?

God might have opened up a situation for us. Regardless, this family needs some prayers.

The paralegal I work with, her mom is also a paralegal at a big defense firm. She works with another paralegal who has a daughter who just turned 13, and is 11 weeks pregnant...with twins...

The parents of this 13 year old are pushing her to want to give the kids up for adoption (though I think the parents can push it all the way because the age of consent with kids is 14 in Missouri - or so my limited research said).

The father is 14, and his parents are already urging him to sign off his parental rights. The papers have been drawn but I don't know if he has signed them or not.

Our names have been dropped. Thing is, they want an open adoption, and we aren't too keen on that. However, we said we are willing to talk and see what they mean by "open" and see if it's something reasonable to us. The parents are purposely wanting to do a private adoption to save costs to the adopting party.

Also, right now, I don't know if I'm pregnant or not. I'm late, but the tests keep saying negative. I've been told some people take longer to show a positive test than others. Also the tests are about a year old. Who knows.

Big thing here. Regardless of what God has in mind for us, PLEASE pray for this family. I can't imagine getting pregnant that young. I don't think I knew how the parts worked at that age. I'm sure that girl and her parents are scared senseless, as is the father and his parents.

They have my name, that's all I have right now. If I learn more, I'll share. I was going to wait to see if I'm pregnant or not before bringing it up to her again. I still don't know.

I did just hear that a good friend of mine who has been trying for awhile is 6 weeks along. She also has Type 1 Diabetes that is well controlled. She's had a team of doctors from the very beginning, so I'm not too worried, thought I am praying. She said I can be an Aunt.

Actually I did get more information.

My co-worker was at some social gathering with that family and she dropped our names and told her and her parents all about us. The birth mother and her parents sound interested in wanting to meet us, and just couldn't believe we would be willing to take twins and keep them together. They also sounded like they would be willing to keep it open as far as exchanging photos.

I gave my phone numbers and offered for us to meet with the birth mother and grandparents. We can bring our parents with us to show that we have family support, and we can bring tax information, and financial reports to show that we can afford to raise them. They can come to our house, etc.

Gosh this almost sounds too good to be true - I almost don't want to be pregnant now (please pray I get an answer either way on that soon). I realize that there are other roadblocks that could happen, including health problems since mom is 13 and tiny - she probably won't carry to term. I was told that she is following her doctors instructions and is taking her prenatal vitamins.

The only problem that's showing itself right now is that the birth mother's grandmother is against the adoption and is trying to influence the birth mother as such. In fact as my co-worker was telling her about us, the grandmother was making all these speculations, even that my husband is a pedophile. Almost crazy to the point of being laughable. As I told my co-worker, this girl is 13, scared, and probably upset for disappointing her family. She needs to be shown that she's cared for and loved, and as long as her parents are doing that, she will make the right decision.

Caffeine constricts the blood vessels in the brain, making clotting a lot easier. .

Which is another reason I gave up the caffeine. I have what is called "Factor V (five) Leiden". It's a genetic blood disorder that, best described, is the exact opposite of hemophilia. In fact, it is often called thrombophilia. It causes the blood to clot *really well*.

It's also very very common. They just discovered it about 15 years ago and it can be diagnosed by a very simple blood test. We discovered I had it when I got a blood clot in my left leg that was the catalyst for the final diagnosis of cancer. (LONG story. *G*)
