Oh, my! You should have heard the air head at our bible study this Sunday. He was utterly convinced that he not only is no longer a sinful being, but that he was no longer capable of sinning! The pastor gave me a warning look as I started to laugh. Then he warned the fellow he was sitting next to a dyed in the wool Lutheran. Then everyone laughed. The pastor took him straight to First Corinthians and Romans, telling him that if he didn't that I would.
Sometimes, being so predictable takes all the fun out of making a fool out of these idiots.

Don't you wonder if they ever read more than a few passages at a time or question anything the "preacher" says? No pastors for them, mind you. Who beside another lay person or peer should dare pretend to teach them anything? Truly puzzling state of mind, isn't it?

I'm always amazed at the denominations that have a "don't worry about what to think or say or do...we'll tell you!" attitude.
It's one of the reasons I LOVE being a Lutheran. In my Sunday School class, we regularly have Q&A days, a day where the kids can bring their questions about anything Biblical, Theological, etc and I'll answer them. I also tell them "If I don't know the answer, I'll find the answer and if I can't find it, I'll find someone who can." That way they know that their question will be answered and will be answered with truth. I also emphasize that there aren't any stupid questions when it comes to things of the faith. If you don't understand something...ASK!!! Some of our best lessons have stemmed from questions that the students brought with them. I'll even "toss out" a lesson in favor of getting to the meat of the matter when a student asks a tough question.

I did the same thing with someone a few years back who was a self proclaimed bible schollar. If these people would look at the epistles and WHY they were written they would know that the creeds are important and just how many false teachings there are, and not only that but how clerverly deceptive they are, such as decision theology

Romans is like.. um.. *thinks* "The Secret Garden". It's one of those books that I discovered as a teenager and made a serious impression on me.. and so I read it more often than all my other books. Sometimes I have to consciously make myself read other parts of the Bible (for which I am VERY glad to have lectionary to follow), but Romans I return to again and again and again. It's one of the "meatiest" books of the Bible in so many ways.Oh, I don't know...
...maybe the Book of Romans?

There was someone else who read Romans and it had a profound effect on him. Started a whole movement in the Church to go back to the apostolic teachings that are the foundation of the Church.

No doubt. Of course, I confess being compelled to revert to Lutheresque language, stating it was like trying to explain anything to a stubborn [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]. They can't even discuss theology because they have none and they have no knowledge of what traditional doctrine is, nor are they able to grasp it apparently. They seem to be completely brainwashed with whitewash.
Can you imagine how Paul would have addressed people with such attitudes? Oh, the joy of that fantasy!

Almost 30 years ago I was leading an evangelism call (training others), and the woman we visited also claimed she didn't sin. It took over 30 minutes to finally get her to admit that sometimes she might tell a "fib".
If her husband had been there, we could have cleared up the "sin" issue in about 15 seconds.
