I have been very lazy lately and reading a lot. Haven't had much opportunity to read for the fun of it lately. Add in the fact that I got me a kindle recently allows for me to read when away as the kindle fits nicely in my bag and adds very little weight to the bag.

ETA: Yeah, I will put something on both of them soon.

Hubby let me get a kindle fire hd for an early Christmas present and let me say this...I LOVE IT!

The funny thing is, I've only read two books with it. I've used it for numerous things, like mainly watching Netflix. It's like a little pocket computer!

Bummed out because we went to church only to discover that they changed it up to a 10am service. They aren't very vocal about time changes and really the only way to know is to look at the church calendar. I don't recall any other time than Easter when they change the hours. We can't attend the Christmas Eve service because my husband has to work (he works at a sister church) and he might have to work Christmas Day as well.

I'll be glad when the season is over because he has worked the past two weekends and he always has to work Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. It's not so bad now, but it's going to be hard when he can't be with the new baby next year.

Gives you more appreciation for pastoral staff.

I love my Kindle Fire...I don't have the HD version though but the original 1.0. You can find thousands of FREE books to read through Amazon. Free Books for Your Kindle | eReaderIQ.com

That's the site that I usually hunt down through different categories the free books. Be careful though that it's still free when you click through the link though.

I'm hoping to buy April's book after Christmas sometime when I can read again!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Sorry to hear about the time change for worship today.

On the other hand, while you may not be looking forward to taking a new baby to church by yourself, I can tell you that you will do fine in that regard. There are many of us who have had to do the same.

Another miracle in the family. My grandpa (nearing mid-90s) had prostate cancer a while back (around 70/80s) and it was treated, but he never did any follow-up. Last winter (I think) they discovered that the cancer was back and spread to his bones. He was in the hospital and they had him go home on oxygen and he looked like skin and bones. In the spring they moved him and my grandpa to be with family up north since my aunt can stay home and provide constant care. They put him on a new cancer medication and now the cell counts are normal and he looks like he'd never had cancer and to top it off, the doctor said the new meds were so successful that he will not die from cancer!

We're hoping they will both make it to their 75th anniversary in 2013 (I think it's 75th).

That's awesome! I wish all the cancer treatments would be so effective!

I hope everyone had a blessed Christmas!

I had the most wonderful experience on Christmas Eve this year...

We have an old historic church out in the country that is barely used anymore, due to the congregation having relocated, but there is a tradition to go out there on Christmas Eve and ring the bell for 1/2 hr. This year, due to being in-between pastors, we were having no Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service (we had our Christmas service Sunday evening with a candlelight service), more people than usual showed up out at the old church to ring the bell.

There were 29 people - families brought their kids who were visiting for Christmas in addition to us 'regulars', and we sang Christmas carols while the bell rang from 6 - 6:30. Even the kids got their turn, and it was so funny watching them ride the bell rope right up when it would recoil!

At 6:30 when the bell-ringing was finished we ended the evening by singing Silent Night. By the 3rd verse, we were singing in parts (and we had some pretty good singers in the crowd). It was so beautiful, my voice was cracking, trying to hold back the emotion of it all. When we finished, everyone just stood, silently, for a few moments. You could feel the emotion in that beautiful old church. Then everyone wished each other Merry Christmas and we all went on our ways to our family celebrations.

I have been a part of this Christmas tradition in years before, but this year was different - it just seemed extra special.

That sounds awesome! I love traditions like that!

We always conclude our Christmas Eve service by singing Silent Night and our organist always cuts out on the last verse. This year, I was playing the clarinet so I stayed playing and I could hear all the different parts as I was playing. Nearly lost my breath because of it.

My family always travels up to Illinois for Christmas to visit relatives. On Christmas Eve we always go to the service at my dad's childhood church. At the very end of the service, all the lights are turned off and we all sing Silent Night. Since most of the town has German ancestry, we always sing the first verse in German and the rest in English. I love it and look forward to it every year. This year, unfortunately, we were unable to attend church because there were blizzard warnings for Christmas night, so my grandparents had our Christmas get-together the day before and we left on the 25th instead of the 26th in order to avoid the snow and ice. Needless to say, Christmas didn't feel quite "complete" this year without going to church...

This was my first christmas service with confessional lutheranism so everything was new and exciting for me. My church has a giant cross that goes from floor to ceiling and on the candlelight lihhting the cross emits light. So beutiful
