Nope, but I'm a substitute at my daughter's high school :) I mostly sub for the art teachers, but now I'm also subbing for other classes this year as well since I need more money. I wasn't even sure if I was going to return this year because it can get pretty stressful.

I originally wanted to go to school to be a high school history teacher, but I gave up the idea because I didn't want to deal with high school kids. I commend you for doing that job, it takes a strong person to deal with 15-18 year olds in the classroom. lol :)

my sister in law is a 3rd grade teacher - and hearing some of her horror stories, i really have a lot of respect for teachers....it's something i had contemplated at one point, but i don't know if i really have the patience for it....i think if i did, i would be better suited for K-2, no older than that....

It is VERY difficult at times in dealing with a large group of children (at any age). I subbed once (ONCE) for a first grade classroom and they were so high needs that I was super stressed once I got home. And I used to be a Girl Scout leader, so I was used to dealing with groups of children! Yikes.

I think as I get older now that I don't want to deal with a lot of children issues! LOL seriously!

Seniors in high school can be awesome at times and I don't mind having a classroom of them. But get one senior in a class of underclassmen and that senior can be the worst pain!

Freshman. What more can I say? I tense up at the mere thought.

I refuse to go back to the Middle School except for emergencies. I cannot handle their attitudes.

My daughter is a junior this year and I know tons of kids in her grade, so of course, they're the best ;) Since a lot of them know me, they know what they can get away with and what they cannot. It makes for easier classroom time, that's for sure!

Middle school is the worst. Lol. I remember when I was in middle school, kids were so bad, worse than in high school. I remember one class I was in drove a teacher to depression; he was like kneeling behind his desk with a sad look on his face.

All the best, Sis! I pray the doctors will be successful and the Lord will grant you healing.:crossrc::prayer:

Having been a School Bus Driver for a number of years, I can sypathize with you, Lambie. In my case, I was lucky enough only to have the majority of the little monsters for a very short time.
As to the Middle-schoolers, I got to where I flat refused to drive for them. I'd go home without work before I'd drive for a middle-school.
The handicapped buses were much better to drive. Especially the chair buses. Then again, I was also one of the wierd ones who really liked driving the K-buses. The Kindergarteners were so cute. Then again, it did get old constantly repeating, "please sit down, please sit down, please sit down..."^_^;)

Ya know, I have a much better time working with middle schoolers than with high schoolers. The older kids have much worse attitudes and their mouths are vile.

That's dependent on the school district and differs as well from school to school. For instance, in the Jurupa School district, I'd dread doing the High School. The young people there were just as you describe. Yet, in several of the Riverside High Schools it was just the opposite, though they also had a problem High School as well.

Some of the problem in the Jurupa School district had to do with the District Management. They felt the children should be allowed to do whatever they wished and would never (unless sorely pressed) support the driver. They didn't like me because I would take the whole busload of children back to the school to eject one troublemaker (it isn't legal to do anything else in Cal.). This happened quite a lot at Jurupa High. There were a lot of 'Homies' who had gotten away with a lot and had brow-beaten previous drivers. They met their match in me and didn't like it one bit.;) Neither did my supervisor.:p

It was embarrasing to me when my son got Bus Citations.:sorry::doh: He really dreadded it too, LOL, because I knew about them before he did, generally.

Its like with anything in life, theres always exceptions. Some high school kids are really nice, some middle school kids are really nice. It just depends what group of kids your around like Stude said.

This is most certainly true! Even in the worst schools I've driven for, some of the brightest gems were to be found.;)

Personally, I LOVED teaching the 7th and 8th grades. Of course, I only had them for an hour a week at Church so, I might be biased. LOL But I honestly love that age of kids. I like my High School class right now, too but that's because I'm friends with all of the kids AND I already had them in the JR High class so it makes it easier.

I originally went to college to be a teacher (after the Deaconess stuff didn't work out) but I can tell you I am SO GLAD I decided teaching wasn't for me. I can't imagine being in a classroom these days. Teachers, the really GOOD ones who inspire their kids instead of just being there for 180 days counting down, have my complete respect.

Hi guys....I just got out of the hospital. I spiked a fever and had to stay 2 nights. I'm hurting and real tired, but doing better than yesterday.

Hi Seajoy,

Good to hear you got out of the hospital. The longest I stayed was one day and one night. It was torture because my back hurt from laying down for so long. And the anestesia takes time to wear off and I kept puking.

Get alot of rest, I hope you feel better soon.
