Homies???
The first time I went to college I was going for teaching high school history. I don't regret changing my mind one bit. My sister in law is a teacher, and my mother in law is a former para, and current after school care teacher, and the nightmares they bring home... Also, what I do pays more and doesn't require a master's, though like anything else, it is also not without its frustrations.
That all being said (another shameless parent bragging plug), we got blessed big time with our kids' teachers. They are both older than us (around 50ish), and each in a new classroom setting that they are happy to have. So they have the excitement of the new setting, plus the years of experience of having seeing "everything." They totally get the situation with the kids, and are willing to work with them. The poor kindergarten teacher had 9 kids in ELL (English Language Learners), 7 in AM and 2 in PM (mine is in PM). There is one other child in my daughter's preschool class who knows limited English. Yes, their English has improved dramatically in the last week - they speak in more complete sentences. We are on the cusp of being able to have a real live conversation.
