Now many probably read about Jesus drinking vinegar at the cross, or rather tasting it and rejecting it, but do not maybe know that there is a more unpleasant side to the history. So here it is, in the 2nd paragraph of the link

I have read that a mixture of wine and gall was often given to criminals prior to execution so as to ease some of the pain and suffering. I find it hard to believe, after what Jesus had to endure, that they would be concerned about His comfort. I have often wondered though if He refused it because it would further torment Him by causing more pain, or if He refused it because He didn’t want a painkiller that would take anything away from His sacrifice on the cross?
