  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been wondering for a while what the views of Christians are towards Aleister Crowley, Thelema and just Magick in general.

Do you consider Thelema to be the same as Satanism?

What are the christians views of Magick? Do you believe it is 'real'? Do you believe that everything done through magick is ... granted by Satan?

Just curious.

Actual magic is a sin because it is a formulated attempt to control what only God can control. There are one case in the bible where magic is supernatural in nature and gives definate results. When (I don't know which king and which prophet, so if someone would please give post which two I'm talking about, that would be great.) the king asked a woman to conjure up the soul of a dead prophet, it is said that God allowed the prophet to speak. I know there is a sorcerer in the new testament, but that's refering to someone who draws lots, and magicians in eygpt, but again, it's debatable weither it was actual magic or mere slight of hand.

In conclusion, it's a sin, yes, but it only works if God for his own reasons gives his power to you directly. As for Satan, he has no real power to pool from, so it can't come from Satan. However, temptation to use magic and curiousity of such subjects can. Satan wants us to worship ourselves like he has done, and magic is controlling natural processes, so I can see a connection. If magic is actual satanism, that is to say the established "religion", probably not.

I am not inclined to fear what I do not understand - NOR am I inclined to the devil more credit than he deserves.

What exactly is magic? Was it magic that caused the bones of a dead prophet to revive a man?
2Ki 13:21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

Was it magic that revived him? Too often people call what they cannot explain magic and then call say it is demonic. :(

Hello :)

As Christians we are told by God to have nothing to do with witchcraft.

Deuteronomy 18:10
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer,

2 Chronicles 33:6
Also he caused his sons to pass through the fire in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom; he practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger.

The effectiveness or otherwise of witchcraft is irrelevant to a Christian. We follow the will of God and His will is that we take no part in these things.
