Some of them may have had freckles, too, and others not. This point is irrelevant.

Not if the implication was that because the disciples were men, clergy have to be too.

The world needs women priests
to help women in poor countries get an education and jobs.

Jesus ordained two priests.
John the Baptist and Mary of Bethany.

Does the world need women priests?

Given that this was posted in "General Theology", this is a non issue. Many groups have women as clergy, including as priests. Just go join the Anglicans.

Although, to be fair; the title of the thread is "the world needs women priests".
Personally, I don't think the world cares two hoots what gender clergy are. Those who don't believe, probably see it as an irrelevance, and those who do, and are looking to the church for something, probably just want them to get on with preaching the Gopel, being kind and setting an example for others.

On this issue, I've found the world to be very understanding and kind; it's the church that gets all het up and starts talking about false leaders.
We should be ashamed of ourselves. Some who bear Christ's name are brining that name into disrepute by arguing that some Christians can't do something because they are the "wrong" gender.

It's not a priest's job to give someone education or jobs. To that end, there are plenty of women part of local Church communities who volunteer their time to do efforts of charity and community help. Nothing prevents men and women who are not priests from doing so. I think Christianity could use more of those people, but they don't have to be priests.

1 Tim 2:12 to say nothing about the qualifications for elders should put an end to the entire concept of women pastors.

But clearly it doesn't, as the many threads on this subject shows.
If it was a clear, indisputable command from God for all time, then no women would be ordained, and God would not call them to do something he had forbidden.

Unless you are saying that women are deliberately disobeying God/misinterpreting Scripture, and that God is doing nothing to stop them.

No women are legally ordained in the church. This was the case until the church fell away from scripture and embraced liberalism in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Plenty of churches/denominations have female clergy.
Plenty of women are filled again with the Holy Spirit when they are ordained. It is God who calls, anoints and ordains, and God who dwells in them by his Spirit.

[STAFF EDITED DELETED QUOTES]

John Wesley ordained women in the 1700'.
William Booth had female preachers and soldiers.
Even if no one at all had been ordained before 1700; that doesn't mean it was right.

No, it doesn't.
That's why there are so many arguments and divisions.

I'd be careful before accusing a sister in Christ of lying, if I were you.

No; she is claiming something contrary to your understanding of Scripture.

If a born again, Spirit filled woman who was seeking to serve God believed she was called to be ordained, and God REALLY didn't want/allow that, don't you think he would be capable of correcting them and then leading them in the way that he did want them to go?
Does he inspire and anoint them to sin? Does he speak to others, challenge, comfort, convert and fill others with his Holy Spirit through the words of women who are knowingly lying and practising deceit?

No.
Because he has called them to serve him in this way and doesn't have a problem with it.

John Wesley had no authority to ordain anyone; and William Booth's founding of the Salvation Army was indeed done during the "late 19th century."

(Just a footnote to the earlier exchange). ;)

i)How does 1 Timothy 2:12 forbid women from preaching?
ii) if it does, why do you think that the male clergy who test a woman's call and then train her, aren't intelligent enough to realise that?)
iii) why do you think that God isn't able to prevent women, and men, from disobeying his word?

John Wesley was not a heretic.

Who says that John Wesley had no authority to ordain anyone? Th Anglican church, or the Lord who filled him with his Spirit and made him his child?

A woman isn't permitted to have authority over a man and is to remain silent. How do you think a woman is to remain silent if she's preaching?

Wesley has long been regarded as a damnable heretic in my reformed ciricles. I will leave it at that.

So are women not permitted to speak when in your church?

We have had female pastors in the ELCA for many years. We previously had a female pastor at my church. The Bishop of our Synod is female.

Well, I suppose you could argue that anyone should feel free to do whatever he wants, regardless of all precedent, Scripture, and (in Wesley's case) the vows he made when being ordained. Among these were Wesley's promises to reverently obey his bishop and other chief ministers, acknowledging their authority over him, promising to follow their Godly admonitions and submitting to their judgements...

...but it doesn't make a particularly strong argument.

Not having a woman pastor isn't tantamount to prohibiting women from speaking when in church. :smirk:

Except 1 Corinthians does not say anything about pastors, it simply says that women should keep silent.
