My daighter did that once!! I had gotten a rice cooker for Christmas a few years ago, and was making my traditional blackeyed peas, rice and corn bread for New Years dinner. I walked in the kitchen, and saw her standing there with a strange look on her face. I asked her what was wrong, and she said, I touched that (it had the red light thgat meant it was on) and I asked her Why? She said I wanted to see if it was hot! I said, you found out, didn't you!! She wasn't hurt, though, just red for a while. She never did that again!
yeah....I guess Stephen learned a lesson the hard and painful way. Sometimes that's what it takes, unfortunately!

I just discovered this thread. And have read most of the first pages. Congratulations to those of you who've had good changes. And I'm really sorry, things are bound to look up, keep the faith for you that have mentioned trials.

Let's see, me...
My grandmother died on Easter. She was my christian mentor and I was very close to her.

My mother, half sister and her two kids showed up uninvited on my door step...and stayed for 8 weeks in July! (and they were a night mare)

My half sister decided to move here.

My husbands business is struggling financially.

They just raised our house payment $300 a month for next year unless we can pay them $1,400 for the escrow shortage...which of course we can't.

Our son got his braces off. :)
our two other children need them. Haven's (13 on NYE) getting them in January. Lauren (8) will have to wait, even though our dentist is imfatic that she get them immediately. (yeah, rich people don't get that people like us who aren't rich, can't do things this expensive "inmediately")

My husband had about $5,000 worth of dental surgery (not covered by the insurance)....and he's not done!

I've been having chest pains, but haven't had a heart attack or died. (We can't afford health insurance, so I can't go see a doctor anyway. )

My kids are doing really good in school. Lauren and Haven are on the honor roll, and Jordan is struggling, but not doing too badly. :)

Lauren is learning the viola and Haven plays the violin, they both play for the P. Community Youth Orchestra.

Jordan and Haven ran Cross Country this year. Jordan got a trophy. And Haven ran varsity, even thogh she is a 7th grader.

Jordan went to his first semi formal dance with a girl. (he's not allowed to actually start dating until he's 16)

I joined a Joyce Meyer book club through my church and have finally made a couple of friends here. (3 years is a really long time to be on the outside, looking in.)

God bless you one and all. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year! :groupray:

My four year old burned his hand on a coal stove while on a playdate. He said, "I just wanted to see how hot it was!"
He's going to be ok. The doctor said there won't be much scaring. Just blistered up and hurt really bad!! I guess he found out how hot that stove was!
Sorry Mare, kiss him for me, okay?

Same thing, GB, when my 12 y.o. was about 3, we were in CA, vacationing, and waiting for a cafe to open, and he went over to one of those spotlights which lit up the grounds all night, and put a couple fingers on it, and there was no place to get ice, it was still morning, and we had to bang on the door and beg the crew of the restaurant to give us a cup of ice!!!
I was freaking out!!

My "significant other" and I are headed out tomorrow morning to spend the rest of the year on the island of Madeira. We had a great little early Christmas yesterday with the extended family on this side of the pond. Now a colleague is baby-sitting my spaniel and my 18-year-old son is baby-sitting my car, so I have enough to be nervous about, but I'm looking forward to the new experience.

Meanwhile I got the first copies of my book from the printer on Thursday evening, so the idea that I am really an author is starting to feel just a little bit more real.

Merry Christmas to all, and looking forward to more fellowship with you in 2008! David H.

they are slowly getting better.
i have tendonitis in my right wrist at the thumb joint. got 2 shots of steroids in the tendon. very painful today, but the doctor said it should be better in a couple of days. but that I should "agressively rest" my thumb! he wanted to immobilize it! yeah right! with 3 sick boys? one of which is not potty trained yet? I don't think so!!

Hi all,

Been a bit to busy to hang out here lately. I've been spending more time on philosophy sites trying to lightly promote my book and beyond that I've been staying busy with "real life". But I still think of y'all every now and again. Hope all the newlyweds here are still honeymooning, and I hope that all the parents and grandparents are having blessed times with the younger generations.

Main news here:
-More staff turnover not directly effecting my job at work.
- Younger son survived strep and mono; now he just has a basic flu.
- Buying a house this spring for the first time in my life: mega-scarey, but still seems to make sense.
- Both of my parents are coming over from the states for my older son's graduation in a couple of months.

I'll try to stop in more often to check messages, but meanwhile God bless all of you,

DH
