It's good to see all the familiar faces here and to hear of all the changes. Congratulations to all the newlyweds - wow, love is in the air in the fab 40s!

I took a long break from CF. Some crap happened here and I wasn't feeling the joy anymore so I took some time off. My family recently moved, I left youth ministry with a very heavy heart but I now have a new full time job that I love. I am working at a drug and alcohol treatment centre and I just feel like I am really doing something that counts there. Oh, and most of you here would have known me as Cookieboo:) I changed my username - it means "salt" in Hebrew.

Good to see you all and welcome back JD:hug:

Lots of changes! I will have to read more later.

I know I have been MIA for a while. I had my brother staying with us which changed my whole family.

Back in July he went through rehab yet again and was shipped over 1000 km to attend a program near where I live. He lasted 2 days!
I invited him to take a breather at our alcohol free house, which is also 10 km from the nearest liquor source. I thought he would leave at the end of summer.

Instead by the end of summer I was having problems breathing. I quite breathing on several occasions both daytime and night. I thought I would get better, but instead got worse. At first it was once a week but by the end of September I was sure that I would not be able to breath well enough to ever sing again and I was on several medications to keep me breathing.
I began to realize the cause. I knew I was allergic to fermented things but had never been faced with it on a regular basis. My brother was bringing alcohol into the house and smelled strongly of alcohol. He was walking into town!
To make matters worse we (the whole family) had begun changing. I began attending Alanon. Shortly into October I gave him a choice and he chose the alcohol and expected me to let it slide because he was helping on our farm. I stood firm and put him on a bus. I stood firm when the police in the next town called and asked if I would pick him up. He had nowhere to turn.

A week later his wallet showed up in a taxi in a city one province over. A week after that I made contact with his last resort, a pastor who works in a rehab program. My brother has now made it to the long term program. There is hope!

On the heels of this I have been struggling with my kids. I would say that part of it was the emotional turmoil an alcoholic adds to a household but part has been brewing for years.
Oh and my breathing is back to normal again. I can sing!

I'm glad you are alright now!!!
I went thru pretty much the same thing for a few months this past year. It was affecting my attitude and walk with the Lord.

I hated to do it, but when it was under my roof, and the kids are being exposed to it, well, I had to do something to keep my sanity and my sibling was disobeying the Lord, the way I looked at it, so I understand what you did.

Praise God you were there for your brother.
Tough love is sometimes the only way to go.
