  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "un-derailable" thread!

I told them that I don't think it's a coincidence that both Mormon and Moroni are just one letter off from being Moron.
Perhaps this may be of interest if you end up talking to them again.

Many are sincere and seriously misguided. Perhaps when speaking in truth and love, we could plant a seed for them to search for the true faith and find Orthodoxy themselves.

I had a friend I met in middle school who was a JW. She was not allowed to do anything with anyone who was not JW without her mother or father being there. To do things together, we had to go to the park (not my house) with both our mothers there. No internet allowed except for academic sites, strictly controlled reading lists, etc.

She is an extremely kind girl, but was so sheltered and controlled into believing this "religion" that she never thought that she could make her own decisions on this. It is a truly sad thing to see. I wish I hadn't lost touch with her and that I could have somehow shown her that Jehovah's Witnesses wasn't the full faith.

I'd say there is no problem with looking at the religion that way - but perhaps the people themselves - especially the children - should be looked at with compassion. How horrible to be entrapped in those religions! The leaders of the religions on the other hand....I don't have much patience for them. To lead others astray is far worse than being led astray imho.

Wow. I totally forgot that it was voting day today...

I just got out of church, saw your post, and saw that the polls close at 7... this is my first time missing the primaries [emoji53]

I'll definitely vote for the final elections though!

Did not vote but did my civic duty by paying interest and penalties to NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance for miscalculating interest accrued for the tax extension i filed.. They told me by certified registered mail that i still owed $107 for 2014.
Interest; 42.00 (and then penalties on the interest of about $65.

I'm in Cali, we haven't voted yet, i'll be honest I can't wait to get to the general election, the primaries have been very brutal, and nasty this time around. If it wasn't filled with a bunch of anti-Orthodox, anti-Catholic type of Baptists, and Calvinists i'd most likely would join the Constitution Party, and leave the GOP behind. The GOP is now nothing, but a modern Whig party. Let's hope the Convention doesn't end similar to the events of 68.

So my husband's birthday is coming up soon and I was thinking about taking him to a movie. Any thoughts on whether superman vs batman is worth seeing? @gurneyhalleck1

I enjoyed it personally, especially Ben's portrayal of Batman/Bruce Wayne. I have some gripes, but twas still worth it

Was it strange to see it so soon after the Batman series? Did it seem out of place having the two combined together?

We are in NC for my father in laws funeral. I put my foot in it with my sister in law. She was talking about how people who *really* study religion tend to become agnostics or atheists and quoted some stupid *ducumentary* by Bill Mahr. Anyway she asked me how I know there's a God since I can't see him and I said I can look around me at the complexity and order of the world and since I'm not a retard I know a puzzle can't put itself together a world this complex didn't just happen. I also said in my studies people who don't believe in God usually have a vested interest in their being no God because if there is a God that means there is an objective right and and objective wrong and they don't like that. I don't think my sister in law likes me a whole lot right now.

I bowed out of the conversation after that because as I told my husband we say every week in DL that I will not speak of his mysteries to his enemies and that holy things are for the holy. She is clearly not in a place to receive truth so why waste my breath? I also said I'm not worried about offending atheists because they never worry about offending Christians.
