• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I started using an electronic or "e-cig" an I have quit using cigarettes. It is unproven the long term effects of using one so I cannot say it is "safe." However it does not use smoke it uses steam to deliver nicotine. I felt compelled to share the information.

Electronic Cigarettes (e-Cigarettes)

Links to e-cig related legal/medical information.

I was able to stop smoking and also my need for nicotine has greatly reduced. They don't market it as a smoking cessation tool but a smoking replacement because they want you to keep using it but my cousin was able to quit smoking using it then quit the ecig. I know we will try anything right!

God bless you if you can quit cigs but trading one addiction for another is not really quitting. The e-cigs are liquid chemicals that our body does not need and for sure if you get addicted to them the problem continues. If you can quit them then possibly it is a way to help towards quitting everything that eventually destroys our health and even our faith if we get sick enough. Peace be with you my friend and never quit trying to quit until the victory is yours.
Best wishes
Allan

Yeah, it's trading one addiction for another. I looked at it as at least I moved away from the expense part of it. Now I just spend about 5-7 dollars a week and I don't get the carbon monoxide. I do still have an addiction though that much hasn't changed. I seem to be able to go longer periods of time between "smokes" also so I'm hoping that over time I will be able to quit the ecig. The liquid comes in varying nicotine levels so I've stared to cut the level down to less and less nicotine per "smoke" but like I say I'm still getting it so it hasn't solved the problem. This is a good thread though I'm glad I discovered it for support and to support others trying to quit.

Hi Allan. :)
No sir, I didnt quit quitting, I didnt come in here for another reason. I was feeling like a loser coming in here everyday and saying I didnt reduce the number of smokes, I was feeling really down. So decided to come in here after I reduced the cigs by atleast one and today I succeeded, the count is 12. I know I only reduced by three, but God, I am feeling really awful. I feel like somebody's been stretching my nerves taut, I am cranky, cant think, have a mild throbbing in my head, and I am actually feeling like I can see things but not really observe/notice them. I mean when I tried to play a pc game, I see the things on screen but they dont really register. If I say something cranky or irritating, please forgive me. Right now I wish I had a bottle of wine atleast so I could get a bit tipsy. (It's late night for me, so I cant go out and get some, dont worry hehe). I really need to be with someone to talk- about anything- but being a loner, I am unable to do that. How is your quitting going sir?

Evie227: Ma'am, you mean you havent had a ciggy all day? Wow!! You've got wonderful will power ma'am. About the craving ma'am, perhaps you could ask a friend over and talk to her/him? I mean just talk about something that'll interest you and perhaps keep you from thinking of ciggies? I know that's not a particulary creative answer, but I dont know what to do about this craving myself. I really hope you can sit tight and not smoke ma'am, please dont give in. I myself am actually using a little bit of snuff to ease the craving, but I wouldnt advise anyone to try it- as Allan would say, it would be trading addictions. (The snuff I have must be really low on nicotine as I am not getting any reduction in the craving). Anyhow I think you havent smoked today at all, and that means you are a tough lady, and I think you'd be able to beat the craving ma'am. Remember, there are people here looking up to you to show us you can beat the monster.:thumbsup:

To everyone on here that is trying to quit. Don't give up! It's a long hard process to quit. This may sound crazy, but when I smoked I only smoked about a half a pack per day. But still it took me several years and several tries to quit. I could always go a few days to even several months without smoking but then I would give in. It's been 1 year since I have had a smoke and definitely still struggle with wanting one. I just wanted to encourage everyone that it is a long hard road, but it definitely can be done.

Haven't smoked since that last post! I finished the packet that day then never brought another, and now here I am. I have been craving especially in the morning, about three times a day when I would normally smoke. I have been dreaming about smoking, at least every night. (Last night I dreamt I bought a packet and started smoking!)
I want to encourage everyone else who uses this thread to post about how they are going, and offer you prayer and support to get over this!

Hello dear friends;
We wish you all a happy and smoke free New Year!
We have been away for the last five weeks so it feels great to be back on line to share our experience in our attemps to rid our body and soul from nicotene.
Well we were in a country that cigs are very cheap compared to in Canada so I have to admit my quitting has suffered much. The days were long and smoking has been one of my fav. past time for many years. It is now time to get back to work and resume quitting again.
Looking forward to hearing from you Matt.

Great to hear from you Matt and also everyone who is in the struggle to get stinky weed out of our lives. We were recently away from home and in a country where cigs are lower price then in Canada so I smoked up real good for 5 weeks (must be cracking up LOL). The one thing that stands out is that I was the only one I came in contact with that smokes cigs. There is no public smoking allowed and I felt like a complete alien from another planet looking for places to smoke up alone. I mean this has got to be insane to keep puffing away when everyone else has quit. Trying hard to get back to max. 10 per day. Please pray for me.

Hello Ruth;
The method we try to work here is certainly a long and drawn out process of quitting smokes without the use of alternative products which in most cases are as addictive as cigs. We suggest that the focus should be on the gradual elimination of nicotene from our bodies. Our moto is quite simple "Never quit quitting." We need to become accountable to God and to ourselves for every single cig. we put in our mouths. Smoking 10 cigs a day is certainly nothing to boast about but it is a step forward from 20-30-cigs a day. Would you agree?
Thank you for your comment and we hope you will join us in our mutual effort to help each other gradually eliminate cigs from our lives.
God be with you.
Allan

Hi Allan,
Yes, 10 is a lot better than a whole pack. I just wonder if you time it like a cig. every 2 hours or so? I have tried having 1 every hour then made excuses to have them before the hour was up like after eating or even before and after eating. It takes discipline to just have 10. I'm wondering how I can do it.

Peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.

My advise Jesus.

I was a smoker for many years. Coffee and smoke the best thing in the morning, s oke and alcohol best thing with friends.

I tried quitting many times managed few times to Quit for long periods at the time, but boy it was not easy. Friends smoked, drinking coffee without smoke was hard, party's without smoke was hard, but the best part was bragging to everyone that I QUIT. Loved it.

But fell...when I got anxiety and panic attacks I smoked even more, than had to try quitting again, patches all sort of thing, I just could not do it, if I stopped I would dream of smoking, it was way too hard,, I loved smoking, and I cannot give it up or want to, so when I gave my life to Jesus repented screemed for help for the anxiety, all day repenting, I was a mess, in the end of it I felt soooooooooooooooo much better and renewed and God heard my cries and his reply to my cries was, I stopped that night smoking. I had no desire, I was amazed I waited for my weak self to grab a smoke I didn't, husband went for A smoke, I didn't, my body was not pulling for a smoke, it was amazing, now to me it is because I loved smoking. And I just got freed from smoking, not me God Did it for me, why he helped me so much, I was soo happy. Why? I was sinner, who went against him, but he heard me, when I think at the love he has for man kind, it makes me cry. He is very close to us. And willing to give even more. He is the God that I will serve till the end. All praise only to him.

I also had no Dreams of smoking, I feel sick around smoke, not like when I was unbeliever quitter and enjoyed second smoke by sitting around smokers. I tell you it was Gone. I only kneeled once after my screaming repentance asking of him to have mercy on me, And asked him to take the smoking, I cannot did not want to be a christian smoker, and oh boy I was free.

Also I only read the op, so blind post. I guess. Is it?

God bless you all. :)

Peace in the name of Jesus Christ.
