  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe that the nine laws dealing with morality to God and our fellow man are the only thou shalt nots and if you keep just those nine you will be pleasing to God? Do you realize there are hundreds of ways we can hurt our fellow man and thus hurt God? Here are just a few that Paul listed in Gal 5: 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
and you don't think these are spiritually discern-able within the TEN?

That may be what you think is true, but the fact is that only nine of those laws dealt with morality. One dealt with a ceremony. Of course in the sense of whether the ten coming from God could be construed as being immoral would be nonsense. All of God's laws are moral. That does not mean we are now under the ceremonial laws given only to Israel. God told the Israelites why He gave them the weekly Sabbath. He said He gave it to them to remember creation and His leading them out of bondage. It was a special day just for the Israelites. He didn't lead the gentiles out of bondage and He didn't give them the Sabbath.

Why is it that you Messianics feel the need to do something God never planned for you to do? I assume most of you are not Semites. And even if you are it would not be a sin under the new and better covenant not to observe the rituals of the old covenant. I surely hope you do not think I am sinning because I don't observe special days given to only one nation of people.
You believe there is no moral obligation towards God's wishes?

It says THEIR REMAINS and then explains how we enter into that rest by ceasing from our own works in the next verse. Do you believe we do this only on Saturday ? So God only wants you to pick up your cross and cease from your own works on a Saturday ?

By the way which calender are you following ?
You know there are many Sabbaths.
Acts 16:13 point to a specific day. In Acts 13:14 "Sabbaton" plural could mean that the day was both a seventh day Sabbath and a Feast Day Sabbath.
Weekly Sabbath - 7th day of week rest
In the Textus Receptus, "Sabbaton" plural also occurs in 1 Cor. 16:2, referring to a "week" of seven days.
Monthly Sabbath - Seventh Month
Lev 23:24 Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a rest (sabbathism), a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
The Day of Atonement
Lev 23:27 Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; ... 31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. 32 It shall be to you a sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your sabbath."
Lev 16:29 This shall be a statute forever for you: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether a native of your own country or a stranger who dwells among you. 30 For on that day the priest shall make atonement for you, 31 It is a sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall afflict your souls. It is a statute forever. NB: Like the weekly sabbath the Day of Atonement was - a complete day of rest, Lev 23:31 - breach punishable by death, Lev 23:30 - statute forever, Lev 16:31, 23:31.
Week of weeks Sabbaths - 7 weeks between Pentecost and First Fruits
Lev 23:15 And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. 16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the LORD.
Deut 16:9 You shall count seven weeks for yourself; begin to count the seven weeks from the time you begin to put the sickle to the grain. 10 Then you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to the LORD your God ...
Weeks of months Sabbaths- 7 months - sacred calendar per year
Yearly Sabbaths - 7th year rest for the land
Years of Sabbath Years
Lev 25:8 And you shall count seven sabbaths of years for yourself, seven times seven years; and the time of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you forty-nine years. 10 And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, ...
Years of 1000 year Sabbath = Millennium which is the rest which this scriptural verse is speaking of.

The weekly Sabbath was a ritual for Israel to remember creation and how they were led out of Egypt. Deut 5: 15 "Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day." All of the rituals God gave to Israel were for Israel only. God didn't give any other nation those ritual laws. Jesus gave us one ritual and that is observing communion. Marriage services have become a beautiful ritual. Funerals have also become a ritual. And both have become very costly.

My question is why do some try to put others under the ritual laws that were only given to Israel and ended when Jesus ratified the new covenant with His own blood? Had God wanted all nations on Earth to observe the Sabbath and Passover He certainly had the power to do so, but He didn't. Why is man trying to do what God didn't do?

Why did Paul in 2Cor 3 tell us that the ministry of death that was written on stone, the ten commandments, are done away KJV or transitory in other versions of the Bible and so many not believe his words. Why did Paul write in Eph 2: 14 "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace," Jesus our Savior brought Jew and Gentile reconciled through Christ together.
Yeshua as the Lord of the Sabbath whom has invited you to join the commonwealth of Israel, extends all that He has given to the Israelite's in promise and commitment on both parties. When you accepted the blood of His covenant you accepted His Kingdom and its rules.

You believe there is no moral obligation towards God's wishes?
Did I indicate that to you? Of course I want to do God's wishes. I certainly do not need to do the ceremonial laws of the covenant given only to Israel. God never ever asked any other nation to keep any of the ceremonial laws that He gave to Israel. Why would any thinking person believe we must observe those laws today? It seems like there are so many groups of people that have special rules that the hierarchy or originator uses to persuade others to become part of the group. They try to convince us we have to do certain things to please God.Some groups won't allow their women to cut their hair, some won't allow women to wear pantsuits. Some will not allow musical instrument in the church, some won't allow members to receive blood from others, some don't allow members to vote or salute the flag of their country. The following is what we can do to please God and are Jesus wishes for us: 9 ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Want to know how we know we belong to the truth? Read 1Jn3:

19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 if our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: we know it by the Spirit he gave us.

I keep asking why some try to make being a Christian so hard when Jesus made it so simple. This is especially true since Jesus gave us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as our guide. Jesus gave Israel a new covenant that most of the Jews today will not accept. They prefer to live under what Paul, in 2Cor 3, calls the ministry of death. Again, why would any thing person want to live under the ministry of death? It doesn't make any sense now does it?

I see nothing in the New Testament that would indicate that Jesus would want anyone to be under the Mosaic covenant. Jesus brought us together with the ratification of the new covenant. He did it with His own blood. New, better and better promises unlike the old one.

Hi Billy thanks for sharing but your only repeating yourself here.

No one
is telling you that we are saved by the works of the law so your scriptures are not relevant here to this discussion.

Hi Billy, You have heard from the one that is pushing the old covenant Sabbath on the forum so you need to read the following from the prophet of the group he/she is representing. You will find out from the prophet that indeed we have to keep the Sabbath of the now defunct old covenant in order to enter into the Kingdom God has prepared for us. This reeks of works of the Law. It isn't until you are indoctrinated and join the group that you finally learn that all you are told before isn't really the biblical truth.

"It means eternal salvation to keep the Sabbath holy unto the Lord. God says: "Them that honor Me I will honor." {6T 356.4} Ellen White, prophet

I do know one thing about what isn't sin, I know and that is it is not a sin for not observing the 7th-day Sabbath. The covenant given to Israel which contained the Sabbath command was not, in any way, linked to the Israelites salvation Ex 19:5-6. God told Moses the law He was about to give Israel was to make them a Holy nation. It was a covenant of laws that were to be the governing rules while they sojourned in the desert and when they finally went into the Promised Land, Canaan. Israelites were saved just as Abraham, you and I are saved, by faith. By contrast, the new covenant is the covenant of salvation for all mankind. Israel’s Promised Land is defunct as is the covenant that governed the people.

"But if we turn aside from the fourth commandment, so positively given by God, to adopt the inventions of Satan, voiced and acted by men under his control, we cannot be saved. We cannot with safety receive his traditions and subtleties as truth." {RH, July 6, 1897 par. 4} Ellen White, prophet

Both of those quotes are part of what that Sabbath "keeping" church believes. Salvation by what we do. Disregard doing it and lose your eternal salvation. Maybe no one has told you here on the forum that you are saved by your works of the law, but that is not what they believe.

The verse you are using is the same concept that Peter was dealing with. In his vision, he was told to eat. Later he came to understand that it was a Jewish traditional law that was keeping him separate, creating a wall between him and Gentiles.

Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

That is the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, that is what kept Jews and Gentiles apart.

Paul is talking about a physical wall when he says “the dividing wall of hostility”. You may already know there was a wall in the temple that the Jews created to keep the Gentiles out, which was not commanded by the Torah. This was the wall the Messiah destroyed. It is called the “soreg”

Messiah destroyed the manmade “law of commandments in ordinances”. Where it says “ordinances”, it should read dogma

God’s law is not dogma... manmade laws are. And Messiah already said, he did not
Come to destroy the law, so we know Paul is not referring to God’s law in Ephesians 2

I really do not understand why you don't get the meat of the verses. It says Jesus by setting aside in his flesh the LAW with its COMMNANDS and regulations. How and when did Jesus do that? By His death on the Cross for the sins of all His covenant people and ratifying the new covenant with His own blood at Calvary. Now all mankind has the same law, the Royal Law of Love. What a beautiful World this would be if we all loved each other as Jesus loves us. You teach keeping days, I teach Jesus command to love. Jesus didn't have to destroy the Law, Israel did a good job at that. Jesus brought it all to an end.

what part of DO NOT THINK THAT I HAVE COME TO ABOLISH THE LAW & PROPHETS do you not understand?

Yet here you are, thinking the Messiah abolished the Law & Prophets, telling me I don’t get the meat. The irony...

Bob you run out of scripture? It is not very difficult. Sin is the transgression of any one of God's 10 commandments *JAMES 2:10-11 and the Sabbath is God's 4th commandment. Sin is also not believing God's Word *ROMANS 14:23. According to the scriptures if we knowingly break any one of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. In times of ignorance God winks at and does not hold us accountable for sin when we have not been given a knowledge of God's Word but when he gives us a knowledge of what his Word says he expects us to believe and follow it *JAMES 4:17; ACTS 17:30-31. If God gives us a knowledge of his truth and we reject it the scriptures teach there is no more sacrifice for sin but a fearful looking forward to of the judgment to come *HEBREWS 10:26-27 because those doing so reject the gift of God's dear son and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing and do dispite to the Spirit of Grace *ROMANS 6:23; HEBREWS 10:26-39.

God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us a knowledge of what sin is when broken *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4 and just like we break any one of God's 10 commandments we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. There is not a single scripture dear friend in all of God's Word that says God's 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. This is a man made teaching and tradition that has lead many either knowingly or unknowingly to breaks God's 4th commandment *MATTHEW 15:2-9.

God's people are in every church *JOHN 10:16 but the hour is coming and now is that the true worshippers will whorship God in Spirit and in truth. God is a Spirit and those who worship him must worship His in Spirit and in truth *JOHN 4:23-24. God is calling his people out from following the teachings and traditions of men back to the pure Word of God *REVELATION 18:1-5. BABYLON has fallen who will go out to meet the bridegroom?

God's Sheep hear His Voice (the Word) and follow him.

Lets see what James is really telling us since the law keeper has used it to discredit my post.
James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point], he is become guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law. In other words if I were under the WHOLE law and I broke any of the 613 commands of the WHOLE law that pertained to the citizens who were/are under those laws I would be guilty of breaking all of them. What a burden to have to bear.

I am so thankful that I am not under the whole law. I am also so thankful that God has given me the wisdom to search in scripture for the real truth. I have barely scratched the surface of scripture that refutes those who would put me under the laws of the Sinai covenant, Hagar. I joyfully submit myself to be under the Royal Law of Love, Jesus new covenant, Sarah.

Galatians 4:20-26, 30-31
Hagar and Sarah
21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise. 24 These things are being taken figuratively: the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: this is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother...... 30 But what does Scripture say? ‘Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.’ 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

Galatians 5:18
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law
(the whole law)
.

Galatians 4:3-5
3 So also, when we were under age, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Romans 6:14
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

He has fulfilled prophecy in regards to the first coming.

do you not believe the Messiah will return and fulfill more prophecy about his 2nd coming?

Let's look at some more verses that the law keeper pulled out of the hat.

Sin is also not believing God's Word *ROMANS 14:23.
23 But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because [he eateth] not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

The law keeper is saying since those of us do not observe the Sabbath command of Hagar, (see my last post) he/she is using verse 23 of Romans to accuse us of not being of faith and are sinning. And, of course sinners will lose their eternal inheritance. This is especially so because the prophet of the law keeper wrote the following: It means eternal salvation to keep the Sabbath holy unto the Lord. God says: "Them that honor Me I will honor." {6T 356.4}

Now let's look at the next verse the law keeper used to prove his point. James 4:17 To him therefore that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Because we do not observe the Sabbath of the defunct old covenant, Hagar, the law keeper uses this verse to tell us we are not doing "good" therefore we are sinning.

The next verse he/she uses is Acts 17:30-31
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.’

Unsure why he/she used that verse except that it used the word ignorance. Maybe he/she wanted to convey how he/she acknowledges us. We are to repent and go under the laws of the now defunct old covenant? Maybe we should ask the law keeper if he/she observes the feast days and new moons. Since the law keeper used James 2:10-11 about the "whole law" as as verses to tell us we have to observe the Sabbath would those verses in Acts maybe pointing to him/her?

Next is Heb 10:26-27 26
If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

According to the law keeper those verses should wake us up and follow his/her council. Since we do not observe the Sabbath of the now defunct old covenant the fire raging fire will consume the enemies of God???? Talk about verses taken out of context, those verses are prime examples. If you are interested in the real truth read Hebrews 10:19-39 not just a cherry picked verse or two from the one who tells us we are under the old covenant Law.

Next is Matt 15:

15 Then some Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 ‘Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!’

3 Jesus replied, ‘And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, “Honour your father and mother” and “Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.” 5 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is “devoted to God,” 6 they are not to “honour their father or mother” with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:

8 ‘“These people honour me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.

Boy, the law keeper tried to stab us deep there because we believe we are to keep the Royal Law of Love and not the old covenant ritual laws that could only point out Israel's sins.

Well, enough of that. It is getting too boring because none of the verses the law keeper has used would be of any use in trying to put us under the whole law.

So what laws is Paul using to condemn?
Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

He has fulfilled prophecy in regards to the first coming.

do you not believe the Messiah will return and fulfill more prophecy about his 2nd coming?
The point is that Jesus either did or didn't fulfill all He came to do.He said in His own words that He came to fulfill the prophets. The prophecies He fulfilled came to an end. The word law was in the same sentence. Is that so very hard to discern? That is why Paul kepted writing that we are not under the law. Jesus brought the law to an end.

Please show me where anyone prophesied anything about His second coming in the Old Testament.

David prophesied about it in Psalms 110
