So if scripture is not the only rule of faith would anyone else like to have a go at the same question?

"If the scriptures teach us that "faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17) and we are saved by God's grace through faith that comes from Gods' Word (Ephesians 2:8-9) and again whatsoever is not of faith is sin according to Gods' Word (Romans 14:23) and again without faith that comes from Gods' Word it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6) how can we have Gods' salvation and how can the scriptures not be the only rule of faith when our faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God?"

God bless.

Simple - because your definition of God's Word is flawed.

God's Word is much more than the word's recorded in Scripture.

God speaking is God's Word.

You can read scripture and not hear God speak to you.

So the Word of Christ in Rom 14:23 is not a reference to scripture.

It is a reference to being spoken to by the Holy Spirit.

Not really Carl my definition is scripture which is Gods' Word not my words that you disagree with your words that are not God's. Do you want to try and answer the question asked now? If you do not want to you do not have to. It is up to you. Perhaps you can pray about it

Take care :)

The biggest issue I see with using scripture only is that there is no scripture that says which documents are scripture

unless you include the table of contents of the Bible

but different Bibles have different tables of contents.

God watches over His Word...

We have what He wanted us to read in mainstream bibles.

Seems logical to first follow the words and teachings of Jesus. All the rest is usually used to self justify some human agenda. Man assembled these books and whatever man does will always have a personal agenda meaning both sides, God and man, will be represented. Discernment will be needed to decide whether we seek His will or are looking to substantiate our own.

I think that’s why we can all be seen as the lost coin, having both sides presented to discernment.

Yes, I agree, God preserves his word! Not perfectly, but enough that we can generally get the overall themes.

I ask myself, how did God preserve his word? Did he use atheists or Hindus? He used Christians, the church.

Did he preserve anything else inside the church? I think so. Just like the scriptures, I think he preserved the general teachings. Not perfectly, but enough that we can get the overall themes.

(I think you and I agree on the above part, too. I was just adding it as part of the subject of the thread.)

Peace be with you, my man!

Because like any other natural resource there is always someone who is going to come along and lay claim to the resource (scripture) in order to profit and lord their position above others and claim they, not the resource, are the focal point of attention and loyalty. 'All this can be yours' they were told.

Because you are mixing up two definitions of 'God's Word'.

Have done.

You keep attributing 'God's Word' to Scripture.

God's Word is Jesus - THE WORD.

If you could acknowledge this then dialogue might be fruitful.

The Scripture without the Spirit of Jesus is deadly.

You can present Scripture all day - as you do - but folks may not hear the Word of Christ.

That is where faith comes from - hearing Jesus.

In China the Church blossomed with very few bibles because believers were hearing Jesus in their hearts.

They were hearing God's Word without scripture.

The underground church did not announce meeting places or times - the Holy Spirit would lead them directly to fellowship.

Faith then is coming from Jesus speaking to you - bringing conviction, guidance and peace in your heart.

Sometimes this can be through reading scripture - but in places like China and Russia bibles were very rare and even illegal. Yet Faith grew, because Jesus was speaking to His chosen.

So please be careful how you use the term 'the Word of God'

The Word of God is much much bigger than the Bible even if He does often speak through the Bible.

What bible alone looks like.

There's a bible sitting on the table, that's it. No people, no voices reading, no God teaching. Just the bible .. sitting there unable to communicate.

That's what the bible alone looks like.

The bible is useful and good, but alone it isn't of much use at all.

What book is, unless it is read? What tv or computer is any good unless turned on. The only difference is they are full of lies and liars unlike scripture which tells us of God's will and how He sees the world of man as backwards in nature. Examples from beginning to end of how man putting our will ahead of His leads to nothing but disaster and oppression. How those seeking a reverse world to this one can have the Kingdom while the rest have reaped their only rewards here and go no further to ruin the Kingdom as well. You don't need some institutional government to tell you what is plainly written in the Bible regarding that .

If you read the OP I am not sure if you understood it. For example, if no one has said to you that Jesus is not the living Word of God who has given us His written Word (scriptures) as shown in the OP why are you pretending they have? Your making arguments that no one is arguing about. If we are in agreement that Jesus is the Word of God who has given us the His written Word (scripture) then what is your argument? You have none. Just like who ever said to you we can know God's Word without Gods' Spirit? If I have never said we do not need Gods' Spirit to know Gods' Word why are you pretending that I have? If I am in agreement that we need Gods' Spirit to know Gods' Word (scripture) then what is your argument again? You have none because we are in agreement. So why make arguments that no one is arguing about except you? If you do not want to answer the questions asked in the OP you do not have to if you do not want to it is up to you. Perhaps you can pray about it?

Take Care.
