The Rosary Doesn't Do Much For Me...

Personally, I do not think using the rosary is idolatry, but neither do I think that the supposed spiritual benefits believed to come from praying the rosary or, for that matter, directing ones prayers to a created being rather than to God, is proper.

Not sure if this was directed at me; but here goes. Not proper for whom? For you or Major1? Then fine, we will try to not force you to say a rosary. Not proper for Alex? He has already answered that question. You see any comment against another's prayer life sets one up as the Prayer Police, which seems a job more suited to God. For you see, it is not the words that constitute the prayer but the attitude of the heart. If the rosary inclines ones heart towards God, then how can it be a bad thing. I would contend that people who pray the rosary daily, probably pray more than nearly all other Christians. Do you really want to try to stop that?

YOU have failed to show where the ROSARY is mentioned in the Scriptures at all.

I never claim the word rosary is in scripture.

I do not actually have to PROVE anything. We as Christians should live by faith.

Please do not misunderstand my position. I for one do not care what you do.

I am not condemning your actions and you are free to do what you choose to do.

ALL I am saying and have said is that there are some things that are done which can not be called Bible Christian actions and the Rosary is an example of that.

I would say the same thing about some Protestant believers who say that infant baptism is essential to salvation. Again, you can do it but you can not claim it to be Biblical Christianity because there is nothing in the Bible that says that.

Wow, I forgot I had this post!

That was awhile ago when I posted this, and shortly afterwards, a particularly aggressive reply tried to bash the Rosary by bringing up one of the 15 Promises of the Rosary. Intrigued, I checked out what they were, and since then I've been much more dedicated to it; I guess I just needed to understand what I was doing a little better!

Also, I've come across something really good for my spiritual life, called the Scripture Rosary. It reads a Bible verse before each "Hail Mary", a verse that refers to the Mystery in that particular Decade. I've found one on YouTube for each of the 4 sets of Mysteries, downloaded them on my tablet, and now I do it every day, immersing myself in Scripture while I do what I've come to recognize as one of our most powerful prayers! (Perhaps the Mass is the only prayer stronger, but I've found that trust may be the strongest prayer of all).

I guess that you have read what you posted???? Just in case you have not done that allow me to point out some things that are shall I say...…."Questionable to a lot of people".

1st Promise...........
"Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces."
"Serve me"?? Um NO! I think if you will check the Bible you will find that We only serve Jesus.

Then is there anywhere in the Bible that says.....Mary can give out graces??


4th Promise...….
"The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish."

Really? So by reciting and making devotion to Mary will make sure we don't go to Hell.
That's what YOU believe????

". For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life".

"Jesus said unto them, I am the way the truth and the life and NO ONE COME TO THE FATHER EXCEPT BY ME".

I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

Purgatory isn't in the bible, and even if that were so I doubt Mary has the power to do that since she didn't die on the Cross from my sins. Why would I have to go to purgatory anyway all my sins are paid for at the foot of the Cross??

My understanding comes from the Bible and yours comes from other men and that is called "Traditions".

It is an odd phenomenon today, that we accept science, which is created from theories proposed by men and enshrined in textbooks. Yet, for religion we start with the textbook and ignore the men that wrote it.

As for you asking about my use of the word proper, I wondered at the time if that might be inadequate. Think of it as meaning unbiblical or unscriptural or wrong. Whether it is idolatry or heresy or a sin or something else is not the issue with me; it is just wrong.

It is stunning that anyone here would say something like this. There are ALL SORTS OF religious devotions or prayers that are wrong by the standards we all, as Christians, acknowledge, quite apart from whether or not engaging in them makes the person feel closer to God! Many cults, for example, have some such and none of us just passes them off as harmless so long as it makes them feel closer to God (which by all that we know...it does).

First, we did not call anyone "non-Evangelicals" or "non-Protestants;" and second, the discussion has been about the rosary, just as was requested by the original poster.

Since you’re not Catholic, when it comes to the Rosary, I could not possibly care less what you love or don’t love or think.
Also since you like to keep using the word “biblically”, there is nowhere in the Bible where it says all truth is in the Bible. God gave us brains, and saints, and Doctors of the Church for a reason.
